Leicester City winger Stephy Mavididi looks ahead to the new season
He says the lads are ready to attack the campaign head on after a productive summer
The Foxes overcame ACF Fiorentina 2-0 at King Power Stadium on Sunday
He also spoke with excitement about the methods of new Manager Martí Cifuentes
Our new campaign begins on Sunday as Sheffield Wednesday provide our first second-tier test – a 4:30pm BST kick-off at King Power Stadium.
That curtain-raiser arrives after a productive summer schedule which has included five wins from six friendlies, most recently defeating ACF Fiorentina 2-0 on Filbert Way.
Mavididi was one of the players to impress that day, and spoke with excitement ahead of the new season – also explaining how Martí Cifuentes is getting his ideas across.
“We felt comfortable going into the game,” he said on Sunday. “It was a good performance from everyone. It’s obviously good to get minutes into the legs. The Manager’s ideas are clear, so we’re ready to attack the season.
“We do most of our work on the training pitch every single day. We can see his ideas and the lads are trying to adapt to it. So far, so good. We’ve got some good pre-season games under our belt now and we’re ready just to start the season.
“To be honest, pre-season’s boring! We just want to get the season started straight away. Obviously, in terms of the Manager’s playing ideas, it’s similar to what I’ve played under before, so he’s got good ideas and I think we can have a lot of fun this season. We’ve got to get that ruthless mentality into us.
“As you know, we’re coming into a ruthless league, so we’ve got to get that ingrained in us. Hopefully it’ll stand us well in the Championship.”
For Mavididi, a Championship title winner in 2023/24, the target for this term is clear, and he’s focused on getting the preparations right during this final week of pre-season.
“I don’t like to set myself individual targets, but obviously the target is clear for everyone and that’s what we want to achieve,” he added.
“We’ve got our last week now, coming into the season, so it’s going to be an important week for us. We’ve just got to get our head down, work hard, and hopefully pick up the three points on Sunday.”
