LCFC Women lost 3-1 to Sunderland in Barclays WSL2

Manager Rick Passmoor reacted to Sunday's defeat at the final whistle

Suffering a fourth consecutive loss, the international break couldn’t come at a better time for LCFC Women, who must learn from recent mistakes, and get back to our winning form from the start of the season.

Speaking after full-time at Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground, the Manager believes we put in a good shift over the first 45 minutes, which saw us go into the break level, but saw the Foxes tire in the second half.

“The players that have been available have been first class and worked really hard to step up to the mark, which you saw in the first half particularly,” he started by saying.

Asmita Ale scored our only goal against the Black Cats.

“They left everything out there, and in the second half there was a period of 10-15 minutes where we stuck together, and the group are sticking together, because they want to play for the shirt.

“What we’re looking forward to is getting players back from injury, because they do make a difference in and around training.

“There’s no transfer window available, so for instance, losing your captain, with over 150 appearances for Leicester is tough, along with Liv [McLoughlin], Emma [Jansson], Celeste [Boureille] and Leah [Eddie] who all offer experience.”

Hoping the week break will offer a good chance for the coaches to work with the team and potentially see one or two players return from injury, he understands what must be done to work our way back up the Barclays WSL2 table.

“Sunderland were a very good side today and have been performing well this year,” Passmoor continued. “They have been backed well but of course it is hard to take for the fans, it’s hard to take for everybody.

“But we have to stick together and understand that we will get better.

“When you come to the North East, you have to be on it for 90-95 minutes, and I think we weren’t today, and that’s why we lost out.

“We’ve got squad players who haven’t played two to three consecutive games for a year or 18 months, so we really are pushing them hard at the moment.

“We produced a good first half display, but we need to be showing that for the full 90 minutes.”
