Sunderland beat LCFC Women on Sunday afternoon
Asmita Ale scored Leicester’s only goal in the Barclays WSL2 fixture
The defender looks to spend the international break wisely, to come back stronger
Seven days after a loss to Newcastle United, the Foxes were back in the North East, meeting the same fate at the hands of Sunderland last time out. Marking her 50th league appearance for City with an impressive first half goal, Ale believes there are moments to build on, despite defeat at Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground.
“We’ve had a few tough games recently and we knew it would be tough against Sunderland,” Our No.12 stated. “They’re a good side with some good momentum.
“I think we should be proud of the first half, because we were winning our battles and were very physical, but in the second half they did gain some momentum.
“We know the league is going to be hard, and we need to utilise this international break to train hard and make sure we learn from it.
“We’ve had a good training week heading into this week, but I think they just outrun us a little bit. We’ve got to keep that energy for 90 minutes because, as I said, we did do well in the first half.”
Leicester have six points from the first five games in WSL2 and while Ale knows the improvements must be made, she's staying focused on the task in hand, expecting the team to turn it around over the coming weeks.
“This league is always going to be up and down so we can’t be too negative,” the defender continued. “We need to look at the positives too, but we’ll watch the clips and look to work on our mistakes.
“Hopefully the girls that are away will have good camps and come back with a lot of good energy for the next few games.”
