Leicester City return to Premier League action for the trip to Aston Villa
City face the Villans on Saturday afternoon (3pm GMT kick-off)
The Foxes were beaten 2-0 by Manchester City last time out at King Power Stadium
Stephy Mavididi previewed the challenge
Leicester kickstart the new year with a short away trip to Aston Villa, who currently sit ninth in the Premier League, as they chase European football, while Ruud van Nistelrooy's side look to return to winning ways following a challenging and busy festive period. In the build-up to the game, Mavididi previewed the fixture, knowing that another tough test awaits them at Villa Park. Talking on the importance of turning performances into points.
"We know it's going to be a tricky game," the winger explained. "Over the festive period, it's always busy so it's going to be heavy on us and on them as well but we know what to expect and we'll take the game positively as we have been doing to get a result.
"They're doing well and are a good outfit. We've been doing our work on them already and hopefully we'll be able to get the better of them on the day."
When asked about the extra importance of the Midlands rivalry, the 26-year-old admitted it may boost other players, but for him, he is always just focused on the task at hand, hoping that the Foxes can start turning their positive performances into much-needed points.
Mavididi added: "I guess it helps some players, but at the end of the day it's another game and we're looking to attack it to get a result. We need to work hard and put in the effort this week in training.
Focused on the challenge at hand.
"Every game I play I'm happy and I'm pleased that the Manager trusts me and I've just got to keep working and hopefully the positive results will return for us and get us going on a streak.
"At the end of the day it's only the result that matters so it is positive that we're showing good performances and hopefully the results will turn in our favour.
"Each game is different and you take it as they come. We'll be looking forward to the next game and hopefully get something from it."
