The 31-year-old, fresh from achieving promotion to the Premier League with the Tractor Boys, has signed a three-year deal, adding to Russell Martin’s options out wide heading into our 26/27 campaign.

Linking back up with former team-mates Conor Chaplin and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Burns is eager to play his part, with the target clear heading towards the start of this season.

“I’m delighted to be here and excited for the project,” the midfielder told us, speaking from Seagrave. “Having spoken to various people I know here and a brief chat with the Manager, there’s a massive ambition to get it back to where it once was.

“I know Chappers really well. We speak most days anyway. He was a big driving force in convincing me to come here. He said nothing but great things about the Club so far. Obviously the facilities are state of the art, they’re incredible.

“I walked around here this morning and had a look at everything. It’s quiet mind blowing how good it is here. And me and Bob go quiet far back. We came through together at Bristol. It will be good to get to know everyone.

“Hopefully [the fans get] a lot of excitement – goals, assists. I’m quite a direct, old-school type winger, a right-footed right winger. I’m not an inverted winger. They can expect direct play, taking on the defender and crosses.”

Discussing his reasons behind choosing King Power Stadium as his next destination, after a successful five-year spell in Suffolk, the Wales international explained what he feels he can add to the dressing room and on the pitch, bringing the experience of gaining EFL promotions.

“It takes a lot for a player to drop down a league, never mind two,” he added. “There was interest straightaway from Leicester. I’ve played against Leicester a few times throughout my career and hardly had a favourably result against them. They’ve always been a top side and when the interest was growing, I was keen to get it done.

“There’s three promotions at five seasons at Ipswich, which is an incredibly proud achievement that I’ve got on my CV.

“I’m hoping I can bring the experience of when the season gets going and you get into the thick of the games, that you keep level-headed and grounded throughout all the tough games and when results don’t go your way, which inevitably will happen throughout a season.

“It’s just to keep the dressing room level-headed. There’s one focus for the season and that’s to get promoted. Ultimately we need to achieve that.”
