Will Alves struck in Cardiff City’s midweek draw with Preston North End
Ben Nelson and Hamza Choudhury came up against each other in the Championship
Wanya Marçal, Oliver Ewing, Arjan Raikhy and Ben Grist all featured for their loan clubs
It ended all square between the Bluebirds and Preston North End on Tuesday evening, with the Leicester loanee’s strike, completing a move which he started from the edge of his own box, equalising for the away side before Yakou Méïté scored a second leveller in injury-time.
Also playing the first half of Cardiff’s goalless draw with Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road three days earlier, the 19-year-old winger started back-to-back Sky Bet Championship fixtures for the first time.
This latest stalemate leaves Omer Riza’s men inside the relegation zone on goal difference and they host Stoke City at Cardiff City Stadium this Saturday (3pm kick-off) with the Potters currently positioned two points and two places above them in the table.
Ben Nelson came out on top against Hamza Choudhury as Oxford United saw off Sheffield United 1-0 at the weekend. The centre-back played throughout while there was 58 minutes of action for Bangladesh international Choudhury at Kassam Stadium.
The midfielder also featured in Tuesday’s defeat to Millwall by the same scoreline, playing just over an hour at Bramall Lane. Chris Wilder’s men, now in third, head to Plymouth Argyle for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off, bidding to return to the top of the second-tier table.
The Yellows, meanwhile, host QPR tonight (Wednesday), aiming to move further clear of the bottom three.
The young defender has been a consistent performer for Oxford since his return from injury.
Winger Wanya Marçal managed 63 minutes for De Graafschap on Sunday; his third straight start helping Superboeren to claim a 2-0 victory at home to Roda in Eerste Divisie and remain sixth in the standings ahead of travelling to meet FC Eindhoven at Jan Louwers Stadion on Friday (7pm kick-off).
Fellow Development Squad midfielder Oliver Ewing played 90 minutes as a stoppage-time goal denied Buxton all three points against Kidderminster Harriers, but the point does keep the Bucks in the National League North play-off mix, currently ninth with a trip to Scarborough Athletic to come on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Having already helped Worksop Town to secure a play-off spot in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, 20-year-old defender Ben Grist was involved again for the Tigers but could not prevent a 3-0 reverse at Stockton Town at the weekend. Remaining second in the table, a meeting with Bamber Bridge awaits on Saturday (3pm kick-off).
Back into the Football League, Brandon Cover was an unused substitute during back-to-back games as Fleetwood Town defeated Accrington Stanley 4-1 prior to losing 4-0 at home to Swindon Town. Sitting just outside of the top-half of Sky Bet League 2, the wing-back’s next opportunity to feature comes on Saturday when travelling to Chesterfield in a 3pm kick-off.
Similarly, in the Vanarama National League, Arjan Raikhy remained on the bench as Tamworth fell to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Maidenhead United.
Remaining 10th in the standings, the Lambs host Braintree Town on Saturday (3pm kick-off), following their Birmingham Senior Cup Semi-Final triumph over Coventry City Under-21s in midweek.
Raikhy played the first half of a 1-1 draw at The Lamb Ground before winning on penalties to book a place in the final.
