  • Leicester City lost 4-0 to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday afternoon
  • The Foxes slipped back into the Premier League’s bottom three as a result
  • Midfielder Harry Winks felt it was a day where nothing went right
Abdoulaye Doucouré’s goal after 10.18 seconds set the tone for a disappointing afternoon at Goodison Park, with Beto doubling the Toffees’ advantage just six minutes in. It was always going to be a challenge to come back from that position and a third just before half-time was a big blow to our chances.
Winks did not pull any punches when it came to analysing the game, which also included a late fourth from Iliman N'Diaye, with David Moyes’ side the better side across the pitch, leaving Leicester 18th in the Premier League table, now two points from safety.
“It’s frustrating, disappointing and ultimately, it’s a game that we knew we had to come and get a result in,” the midfielder admitted. “The way you get a result at Goodison Park is that you match their fight and their intensity. If you don’t do that, it’s always going to be a difficult game.

“From the off, when we concede quickly, it doesn’t help. Being 2-0 down in any game in the Premier League is tough, especially so early on in the game when we knew that they would come out of the traps flying and their fans would be up for the game.
“The first 15-20 minutes was trying to settle the crowd and trying to ease our way into the game. To concede so early, it makes it difficult but we’re still in the game and we’ve shown many times this season that we can come back from being behind.
“Today, the performance wasn’t good enough and we’re all open enough to say that. When it comes to the weekend, you can’t just turn it on and I think today showed that.
We know this is a point where we have to understand the situation that we’re in and find a way of getting results because time is running out. We need to find a way of staying in the league.”
The squad are determined to reverse the current trend, Winks says, with the comeback win at Tottenham Hotspur last weekend not backed up in Merseyside.

There’s time to reflect, too, ahead of the next league fixture, with Arsenal due at King Power Stadium on Saturday 15 February (12:30pm GMT kick-off), but attention will now turn to the Emirates FA Cup Fourth Round tie at Manchester United this Friday.
“It’s a game that between us we’re going to reflect on,” the 29-year-old continued. “If we got a win today, we could have brought Everton back in and give us a bit more of a gap to the teams below us. We knew before the game the importance of it, so we approached the game in the right way.
“We had the right mentality, and I don’t think it’s a lack of fight or a lack of heart on the pitch. You see how badly we want to win and everybody is in that fight together, but when you’re down there and confidence is low, things go against you and it’s difficult.
“But I can say from us as players, that we know the situation that we’re in and we’re committed every day to getting out of it. That’s something we need to keep improving on. It starts in training, we have to work hard and improve.
“Our aim is to do that. It has to be. You have to train with intensity and ideas and a will to win.”
