Having made his senior debut in 2002 for local rivals Nottingham Forest, Morgan will prepare for an 18th campaign as a professional footballer.
The 35-year-old’s experiences tell him that while home advantage will be key on Saturday 10 August, when Wolverhampton Wanderers visit King Power Stadium, City’s opening day opponents will also want to perform well in 2019/20’s curtain raiser.
Morgan said: “I still get the same type of buzz for fixture release day now as when I did as a young player coming through. It’s a special date in the calendar for players and supporters of every club because you’re always looking out for different teams and when the big games will be played.
“We’ve been away from home on the opening day for the past three seasons, so to be at home in front of our own fans this year will be nice. We want nothing more than to get a win for them but fully appreciate Wolves will come here wanting to start their season well too.”
After moving to King Power Stadium in 2012, Morgan went on to win promotion to the Premier League in 2014 before lifting England’s most coveted trophy two years later.
A remarkable Foxes career has seen him captain some of the most talented players in the Club’s history, and Morgan says the Blue Army can be excited by City’s squad ahead of the new season.
He added: “I’ve been involved in some brilliant squads during my time at the Club but this one is one of the most exciting ones yet.
“There is so much potential here and you only have to look at the four lads who are away with England Under-21s this summer to see that the future is very bright at Leicester.
“You’ve then also got the likes of Chilly (Ben Chilwell) and Wilf (Wilfred Ndidi) who are involved with senior teams and they’re also still so early into their careers.
“The fans will have a massive part to play again this season. They’ve been amazing with me from day one and I know how much they want us to be successful.
"Our home form will be key this season and it’s important we make King Power Stadium a difficult place to come to – starting on the opening day.”
