Manager Brendan Rodgers hopes the influence of First Team Coach Kolo Touré and Leicester City's senior defensive players can help Wesley Fofana fulfil his potential at the Club.

Fofana, who joined the Football Club from AS Saint-Étienne earlier this month, could make his debut for the Foxes this weekend after maiden appearances for France's Under-21s.

Two successive clean sheets for Les Bleus' youngsters - against Liechtenstein and Slovakia - adds to Fofana growing reputation in his homeland after a rapid rise through the Sainté youth set-up.

Now, with Çağlar Söyüncü set for a brief spell on the sidelines through injury, Rodgers has discussed the likelihood of the Club's newest signing featuring against Aston Villa on Sunday.

"I’ve got no doubt he’s a big talent, even though he hasn’t played a lot of games," he said. "He’s very aggressive in everything he does, he attacks the ball very well in the air.

Rodgers says Fofana has been welcomed into the Foxes group quickly this month.

"He’s got a great spring, so he can cope with that physical side. He’s the type of defender I love. He wants to defend on the front foot. He’s super quick, too, and he can pass the ball.

"From watching him prior to him coming in and then actually seeing him here, I’m really excited to work with him. With young talents, you look at their temperament, physicality and quality.

"This boy has that. That’s not to say he won’t make mistakes, he’s young and he will do, especially at this level, playing against the types of strikers that he will do.

"But I’ve got no doubt that, if I have to play him, then I’m comfortable to put him in. He’s a very streetwise player. He’s come through, fighting his way through.

He’s someone who Wesley really admires. That’s one of Kolo’s roles here, to look specifically at defenders. He’s got great experience in that position and can really help.

"There was so many clubs looking at him in Europe, but thankfully we were able to get him."

Meanwhile, Fofana is working closely with two-time Premier League winner Touré, also a champion at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2015, and is a figure the Frenchman respects, Rodgers says.

"Kolo’s someone that Wesley really looks up to," the Northern Irishman continued. "He’s got an Ivory Coast background in his roots and Kolo is obviously the King of Ivory Coast!

"He’s someone who Wesley really admires. That’s one of Kolo’s roles here, to look specifically at defenders. He’s got great experience in that position and can really help.

"We have senior players like Wes Morgan and Jonny Evans too. These guys can be brilliant for players like Çağs and Wesley, so I’m looking forward to seeing them blossom over the next few years."

Former Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool centre-back Touré works closely with Leicester's young defenders.

Fofana's personality, on the other hand, has also left Rodgers feeling enthused about his chances of being successful in Leicester with the Marseille-born centre-back settling in quickly.

"You can see his personality," the former Liverpool and Celtic manager added. "He’s very mature for a 19-year-old guy. He maybe doesn’t speak so much English now, but because of his personality, he’s trying to speak it already. He’s in among the players and, obviously, we have many French speakers here.

"He’s very keen to learn the language and he’s started his lessons already. I predict a big future for him, but it’s just time. I’m not expecting it straight away.

To have quality players is important and [Slimani] showed in his time at Monaco - I saw him on the TV a number of times playing - that he’s someone who can contribute for us.

"We brought him here to develop and improve and I’ll look forward to working with him."

Another player who could play a role for the Foxes in Sunday's 7:15pm BST kick-off against Villa is Algeria international striker Islam Slimani.

The 32-year-old, who joined the Club in 2016 from Sporting Lisbon, netted nine goals while on loan with AS Monaco last term - and Rodgers says he has a role to play for City in the Premier League.

"Slim will come into our Premier League squad," he confirmed. "When he came into the Club, he’d been a no.1 striker. It’s been difficult for him and he’s gone out and spent time on loan.

Slimani could make his first competitive appearance for the Foxes since January 2018 over the coming weeks.

"He hasn’t really featured so much for us over the course of pre-season and early season as my thinking was, he would probably end up going out, but I had in my mind that if he didn’t, he could certainly be someone who could come into our squad.

"That’s how it’s worked out as he hasn’t gone out on loan and he’s someone I happily welcome in because it’s going to be a real demand for all the players.

"To have quality players is important and he showed in his time at Monaco - I saw him on the TV a number of times playing - that he’s someone who can contribute for us.

"He’s clearly a physical presence. I think coming into the box, he’s good in the air.

"That’s one of his strengths, attacking the ball from the side, so he can give us an option in the games, absolutely. He can play as a different type of striker."
