Tottenham Hotspur Women are up first for LCFC Women as the Barclays Women’s Super League season begins on Sunday.

Hosting Spurs in a 3pm kick-off at King Power Stadium, Lydia Bedford’s charges will seek to start the 2022/23 campaign – City’s second at this level – on a high. Prior to the action getting underway on Filbert Way, check out all the information to know about both teams…

The Foxes camp

Aileen Whelan previously played in the WSL for Brighton & Hove Albion.

Six additions have been made to the squad over the summer, with midfielders Josie Green and Aileen Whelan arriving from Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively, alongside full-back Erin Simon who joins following a spell in the NWSL.

Young forward Carrie Jones has signed on loan from Manchester United, while experienced defender Demi Vance and midfielder Ellen Jones joined later on.

The departures of Paige Bailey-Gayle, Esmee De Graaf, Sophie Harris, Abbi Grant and Luana Zajmi were confirmed, with Sophie Barker (Sheffield United) and Charlie Devlin (Birmingham City) leaving on loan.

The opposition

Spurs faced WSL champions Chelsea in pre-season.

Finishing fifth in 2021/22 represented Tottenham's best-ever WSL placing, finishing on 32 points after winning nine of their 22 matches, narrowly missing out on a European spot.

Spurs announced midfielder Drew Spence as their first summer signing after 12 years at Chelsea, with former Manchester United centre-back Amy Turner joining after a spell in the NWSL with Orlando Pride.

Young forwards Ellie Brazil and Celin Bizet Ildhusøy made the move from Brighton & Hove Albion and Paris Saint-Germain respectively, with Wales international Angharad James also recruited from Orlando.

Ramona Petzelberger moved across from Aston Villa, with ex-FC Fleury 91 forward Nikola Karczewska completing the North London club's incomings.

Departing the capital were Rachel Williams (Manchester United), Josie Green (LCFC Women), Jiali Tang (Shanghai Shengli), Maéva Clemaron (Servette) and Angela Addison (Charlton Athletic), while Eleanor Heeps and Esther Morgan both joined Coventry United on loan.

In the dugout

The Spurs head coach presided over the team's highest-ever finish during her first full season in charge.

Tottenham head coach Rehanne Skinner is a former LCFC Women player, who also progressed through the coaching ranks with the Foxes. She took on the roles of Girls Centre of Excellence Technical Director, Girls Under-19 Academy Director, Community Manager, and Women’s First Team Manager.

In November 2020, Rehanne became Tottenham Hotspur Women’s head coach, since continuing the 11-year success of Karen Hills and the nine-year reign of Juan Carlos Amorós. In Skinner, Spurs have a coach with plenty of experience across club and international football.

Last time out

The two sides met three times last season.

Tottenham got the better of the Foxes in both league fixtures last term, winning 2-0 courtesy at King Power Stadium courtesy of goals from former Fox Rachel Williams and Angela Addison. A 1-0 victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the final day of the season was secured via Ashleigh Neville's strike.

However, it was Leicester who triumphed on their last trip to the capital in January 2022. Coming from a goal down to win 3-1 after extra-time in the Vitality Women's FA Cup Fourth Round tie at The Hive, Shannon O'Brien, Sophie Howard and Esmee De Graaf were all on the scoresheet.
