Ben Chilwell believes Leicester City mustered up enough goalscoring opportunities to claim a point from Saturday’s narrow 2-1 Premier League loss to Everton.

- Leicester City were unfortunate not to earn a point from Saturday’s clash with Everton, says left-back Ben Chilwell
- The Foxes suffered a 2-1 Premier League defeat at King Power Stadium
- Chilwell was pleased to see Ricardo Pereira net his first City strike
- The fixture will be assessed on Monday’s Extra-Time show at 6pm BST

The Foxes fell behind after just seven minutes as Richarlison put the visitors in front, before Ricardo Pereira’s fine solo effort levelled matters just before the break.

City started the second half well, but Wes Morgan’s red card and a stunner from Gylfi Sigurdsson turned the game in Everton’s favour.

Claude Puel’s men fought back, as Daniel Amartey headed just inches wide in injury time, but there would be no equaliser at King Power Stadium.

“It’s very disappointing,” Chilwell reflected to LCFC TV following the loss. “To go 1-0 down early on against a strong team was always going to be difficult to get back into the game.

“Getting the goal in the first half was big for us and it gave us confidence going into the second half. The second half started well. We created chances, we were on top and then we went down to 10 men and it was difficult to try and hold on then.

“As soon as they scored it was always going to be hard. We were chasing the game. We had a late chance and if we’d have gotten that goal at the end it would have been a good result for us.”

Result aside, Chilwell was delighted for Ricardo, who celebrated his 25th birthday with a maiden goal in Leicester colours.

“I’m very happy for him,” the left-back continued. “He trains hard and deserved to get a goal. It was a great goal that got us back into the game.

In the second half we came out strong and the game was ours for the taking until we went down to 10 men, then it was always going to be difficult.

“You could see when he scored it, how happy he was to get a goal. After that, like I said, in the second half we came out strong and the game was ours for the taking until we went down to 10 men, then it was always going to be difficult.”

Chilwell came close to finding the back of the net himself, as he fired a right-footed effort narrowly wide of Jordan Pickford’s upright after the interval.

“It’s something I’ve been working on is my right foot,” he said. “The gaffer and a few of the others have said if I come inside instead of passing, just have a go on my right foot.

“I thought I’d shoot, had a swing and it nearly went in. It was disappointing it didn’t go in but today it just wasn’t to be.”
