In 2018, City have had a total of five players - Jamie Vardy, Harry Maguire, Ben Chilwell, Demarai Gray and Maddison himself - called-up for the Three Lions.

After Chilwell became the latest Foxes star to appear for Gareth Southgate's senior side, ranked sixth in the world, Maddison says it bodes well for the future at King Power Stadium.

Reflecting on his own call-up this month, the 21-year-old said: "It was a fantastic moment to honest, just to get that recognition of the good performances.

"I know there were a couple of injuries, but there’s no greater honour than being called up to the England squad.

"That’s the pinnacle, that’s the dream, that’s the ambition to play as a regular for the national team.

"It was a proud moment for me and my family, obviously I didn’t get on the pitch, but the experience on a whole was an invaluable one."

Maddison's friendship with Chilwell has been well documented this season so it will come as no surprise that he was proud to watch the left back shine for England.

"Chilly [Chilwell] was fantastic in the game against Spain, up and down that left, just like I know he can," he added.

[Vardy's] movement’s so good and he’s a good finisher. It makes my job easy, it makes the pass easier for me and hopefully we can keep that connection and build on it.

"He took to the international team like a duck to water. He was fantastic in the game and he deserves all the plaudits he’s getting at the minute."

Since joining the Club, Maddison's playing relationship with Vardy, City's all-time top Premier League goalscorer, has continued to improve.

Both Maddison and Vardy currently have three goals to their name this term and the former says there is more to come from the duo.

He continued: "We gelled really quickly. Jamie was obviously back from the summer break a lot later, because obviously they had the World Cup and they had an extended break.

"We link up really well, I think we suit each other’s games. I like to play in between the midfield and the defence and get turned, when I’m getting turned it’s always nice to see Jamie

"His movement’s so good and he’s a good finisher. It makes my job easy, it makes the pass easier for me and hopefully we can keep that connection and build on it."
