The fixture will see us celebrate a 10-year partnership with Leicester Hospitals Charity, with the milestone marking a decade of powerful community impact and life-changing support for patients and families across Leicestershire and beyond. Ahead of the game, and on matchday, our supporters are encouraged to help raise funds for the Give Big For Little Hearts campaign - an initiative to fund vital state-of-the-art neonatal equipment at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
This includes a new ultrasound scanner and 4D probe, providing faster, more accurate care for premature and seriously ill babies on the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
What is an Ultrasound Scanner?
An ultrasound scanner is a versatile piece of equipment with many uses. This model can image internal structures such as the heart and wider cardiovascular system.
Using this tool, clinicians can:
Provide rapid diagnosis in premature babies with a range of different health issues
Help to minimise pain by reducing the need for multiple needle attempts when pinpointing veins for cannulations
Give peace of mind to parents and caregivers
Reduce delays
Provide bedside point of care
What is a Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE)?
The 9VT-D Mini 4D TOE (Transoesophageal Echocardiogram) probe is a specialist ultrasound tool that provides detailed, real-time images of the heart from inside the oesophagus.
As the largest provider of treatment for children with congenital heart conditions across the East Midlands, the NICU carries out over 600 cardiac surgeries each year.
Using this state-of-the-art probe, clinicians can:
Access 4D imaging in children as small as 5kg, improving accuracy during surgery
Provide enhanced visual guidance for cardiologists and surgeons during complex procedures
Greatly improve diagnostic quality for the majority of patients who currently only receive limited 2D scans
Reduce the need for invasive procedures by delivering clearer imaging in real time
Improve outcomes for hundreds of newborns and children annually
Leicester Hospitals Charity exists to support patients, their carers and the NHS staff who look after them in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and beyond.
Through targeted fundraising campaigns and effective management of donations, the charity provides additional resources, assets and skills which link closely with the strategic aims of Leicester’s Hospitals and the broader strategic aims of NHS healthcare in the East Midlands.
