After a goalless first half in Gary Rowett’s home debut as Leicester City Manager, following two draws at Stoke City and Middlesbrough, Philippe Clement’s side sealed the points.
Goals from Anis Ben Slimane and Ali Ahmed settled the contest on Filbert Way, leaving us 22nd in the Championship table with 11 games still to play.
A quiet opening
Chances were few and far between in the early stages of the game. The Foxes went close first as Abdul Fatawu drove forwards, seeing a shot blocked, before Harry Winks slammed the rebound towards Canaries stopper Vladan Kovačević, who saved well.
When a Mathias Kvistgaarden header hit the side netting for the visitors, the away end were up celebrating, but Jakub Stolarczyk – who was drafted in at late notice – always knew it was going wide.
Patson Daka, meanwhile, also had an opening when Winks and Ricardo Pereira combined in the middle, the latter threading it through. The Zambia striker was able to keep his shot down from the edge of the box however.
Norwich take the lead
A strong Stolarczyk stop prevented Paris Maghoma from completing a solo run from the half-way line with a goal in the final real action of the first half.
In the second, Maghoma was frustrated by Stolarczyk again, powering a fierce strike straight at the Polish goalkeeper from an awkward angle.
A third fine intervention from Stolarczyk kept out Ben Slimane on the rebound from a Ben Nelson block, but Norwich’s No.20 – a second-half substitute – made no mistake from the edge of the box in the 68th minute to put Clement’s side in the ascendancy.
Defeat on Filbert Way
Stephy Mavididi, on from the bench, was teed up by Divine Mukasa’s deep delivery to get a header away, although Kovačević got across his goal to make the save.
When Kellen Fisher's cross was blocked by Luke Thomas, with 12 minutes to play, Errol Mundle-Smith called Stolarczyk into action again. But the ricochet was enough to send it into the path of Ahmed, who had a simple task to put it over the line and put the game beyond Leicester.
One positive to draw from the game, however, were the returns of Jordan James and Jamaal Lascelles from injury, both coming on in the second period. We’re next in Championship action next weekend, taking on Suffolk outfit Ipswich Town, competing at the top of the table, at Portman Road next Saturday (3pm GMT kick-off).
