A Louis Page brace, either side of Chris Conn-Clarke’s equaliser, saw us ahead twice, before Silko Thomas added a stylish third, sealing victory against the Sky Bet League 1 outfit, as City brought an intense first week of pre-season to a close with a positive performance on home soil.
A first chance for supporters to get a glimpse at the squad this summer, there were hundreds of Foxes fans in attendance at LCFC Training Ground – with OH Leuven up next a week today (3pm BST kick-off).
A blend of youth and experience
Sixteen-year-old Jake Evans started through the middle, with Michael Golding and Wanya Marçal also in attacking positions as Leicester fielded a youthful line-up alongside several experience heads, including captain Ricardo Pereira and Luke Thomas at full-back during the opening 45 minutes.
With two separate teams for each half, seeing a total of 22 players get a run-out, it was all change for the second period, with a fresh XI, including James Justin and youngsters Will Alves and Jeremy Monga - both with the Club since Under-9s - replacing the starters, the latter duo looking lively against the Peterborough defence, having a hand in the opener.
Finding rhythm
Still at an early stage of pre-season, getting minutes in the legs was the main priority of the afternoon and despite plenty of early possession it was Jakub Stolarczyk called into action first, holding on to a header. Wanya Marçal then had our first effort of the game, sending it high and wide of the far post.
It remained goalless at the break, after Luke Thomas blasted a first-time effort over following good work from Evans, while Jayden Joseph volleyed wide from Conor Coady’s aerial pass early in the second half.
Goalkeeper Stevie Bausor soon had to make a save of his own, diving down to his right, but Posh punished a misplaced clearance with just over a quarter of an hour to play; Conn-Clarke converting into an empty net to level the scores, shortly after hitting the crossbar.
Youngsters impress
It was an impressive 45 minutes from Louis Page, scoring the opener just over an hour in, when Monga showed good feet, leading to Olabade Aluko, up from the back, setting up Page to sweep the ball into the back of the net.
Page doubled his and Leicester’s tally with 12 minutes remaining. Meeting Justin’s cross with a perfectly timed run, he opened up his body to steer a first-time, left-footed finish into the bottom corner.
He wasn’t the only youngster to impress, either, with Silko Thomas’ curling strike finding the top corner in the final minute to round off a good afternoon’s work.
