Ahead of Tuesday night’s Premier League encounter against the Hammers, an 8:15pm kick-off at King Power Stadium, the Dutchman provided an update on the current fitness levels within his new squad. Van Nistelrooy was watching on from the stands as Caleb Okoli limped off 35 minutes into Saturday’s defeat against Brentford, with the Italian defender a doubt for the midweek clash against West Ham, despite taking part in training this week.

The centre-back trained in Seagrave on Monday.

“Caleb was, before individual training today, a part of team training,” van Nistelrooy confirmed to the media on Monday. “That looked good. We’re waiting on his reaction because he pushed to be there today with the team. We’ll see how the reaction is because all being well, he can be in the squad tomorrow.” Harry Winks, meanwhile, was substituted early on during the reverse to Chelsea nine days ago, with a groin issue, and while this game appears to be arriving too soon for the midfielder to be involved , it is not a serious injury for the 27-year-old. “Harry is doing individual work,” City’s New Manager explained. “He is still not part of team training, but his rehab is going well and it’s not a long-term injury. Hopefully we can welcome him back into the squad soon too.”
