_- Leicester City and Leeds United played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday afternoon- Harvey Barnes was on the scoresheet for the away side before Ademola Lookman’s goal was ruled offside_- Brendan Rodgers provided his post-match thoughts following the stalemate at Elland Road- The manager was frustrated not to claim victory but was happy with the team’s performance in Yorkshire
The visitors were forced to settle for a point from their trip to Yorkshire, as Harvey Barnes’ stunning 28th-minute strike almost instantly cancelled out Raphinha’s opener in the first half. The Foxes had the ball in the net for a second time when Ademola Lookman turned it home from close range after Jamie Vardy had flicked on Youri Tielemans’ corner. But on closer inspection, VAR confirmed that the loanee was in an offside position and the goal was ruled out. Rodgers believes his side would have been good value for the victory had that goal been allowed to stand, which was another demonstration of the team’s quality from attacking set plays, as displayed by Daniel Amartey’s goal against Spartak Moscow in midweek. “You couldn’t say we didn’t deserve it,” he told LCFC TV in his post-match assessment of proceedings. "We kept knocking on the door and getting into some really good areas and it was a great ball in. We’ve been trying to work really hard on our offensive and defensive set pieces. “We scored during the week with one. That there was the perfect ball in, good first contact and unfortunately, I think his toenail was offside.”
Rodgers also spoke about the influence of Wilfred Ndidi after welcoming the midfielder back for his first Premier League start since 25 September, playing the full 90 minutes after also coming on as a substitute in City’s UEFA Europa League fixture on Thursday. Rodgers felt the Nigerian international added compactness and steel to the midfield, allowing the likes of Tielemans to push further forward and impact the game in attacking areas.
“He’s huge,” the Northern Irishman explained. “We’re a much better team when he’s in it. You see all the work that he does in the game, it allows others to play with the spaces he covers, so when he plays, we’re a different animal.”
With the latest set of international fixtures set to begin this week, the Foxes do not return to action until Saturday 20 November, when they welcome Chelsea to King Power Stadium for a 12:30pm GMT kick-off in the Premier League.
Rodgers also gave an insight into the schedule and programme that the players will undertake across the upcoming break.
The 48-year-old added: “There’s a few days to recover. There will be a little bit of work taking place. With a lot of the players being away, it’s a chance to analyse, a chance to recover, a chance to reflect.
“And then we’ll look forward to then getting back in the following week and getting some good work in. A lot of the players will come back and we’ll be excited by the Chelsea game.”
