- Sammy Braybrooke speaks on the 3-2 win over Manchester United for Leicester City’s Development Squad- The midfielder scored the Foxes' third goal after strikes from Lewis Brunt and Wanya Marcal-Madivadua- City then had to work hard to come away with a victory at LCFC Training Ground on Monday night- The Premier League 2 season resumes over the Easter weekend with two fixtures on Filbert Way
The Foxes’ attacking talents were on full display at LCFC Training Ground as they scored three times without reply during the first half but then had to show a different side of their game to see out the win.
It took the away side four second-half minutes to restore the deficit, via Lewis Brunt's own goal, and Shola Shoretire made it a nervy last 20 minutes when he also converted.
Analysing the contest during his post-match interview, the England youth international felt City did enough in the opening stages of the game to warrant taking all three points and was happy with the manner of the victory against the fourth-placed Red Devils.
He told LCFC TV: “First half we showed our quality to take a 3-0 lead, showing that we can compete with some of the best in the league. Second half, we had to dig deep and fight for the three points.
“It was very important. We had to get compact, regroup. They had two goals which probably shook us a little bit, but I think we stayed together, defended well and then you saw that we came out with the three points.
“The plan going into the game seemed like it was working. We’d worked on it all week and it showed by getting three early goals. I think you could see that we had a lot of chemistry. “They probably got on top a bit, but I think we did well and got the points in the end.”
After Brunt’s 17th-minute penalty and Wanya Marcal-Madivadua’s well-taken second, the midfielder netted himself shortly before the break, starting and finishing a neat move which ended with a fine strike that beat Andrej Mastny in the Man Utd goal.
“I’m very happy,” Braybrooke explained following his 20th league appearance of 2021/22. “It’s my first goal of the season so it’s always good to get off the mark, no matter how late. I just found myself in the right position really and just thought I’d have a strike and it went in.
“That’s always something I try to do, play forward, drive forward with the ball. I think I saw [Chris] Popov, tried to slide him, obviously it didn’t come off, then came back to me and I saw the shot so I took it.
“I was always going for that corner because I had a quick glance at the ‘keeper and I saw he was further to the other side, but luckily it went in.”
Looking ahead to the season run-in, which begins with two home fixtures at King Power Stadium, it provides another chance to put points on the board in Premier League 2 Division 1.
The 18-year-old added: “It’s where you aspire to play with the first team, so it’ll be a good opportunity to showcase ourselves in the stadium on a big pitch, so it’s something to look forward to.”
