On Tuesday, Steve Beaglehole’s side made the 200-mile journey to Carlisle to continue their Checkatrade Trophy campaign. Opening with a defeat to Fleetwood Town in late August, the Under-23s were determined to maintain their fine form at Brunton Park having defeated West Ham United, Chelsea and Hertha Berlin in September. To Beaglehole’s delight, they did exactly that against an outfit that had lost just once in their previous four fixtures heading into the game.
It was England youth international Layton Nduwku who would net the winner, as he fired home in the first period to secure three points for the Foxes. Development Squad Checkatrade Trophy Northern Group A Standing: 3rdNext up: Tottenham Hotspur (A)Top scorer: G. Thomas (4)
That result came three days after the Club’s Under-18s suffered their first loss of the new U18 Premier League campaign on Saturday. Trevor Peake’s outfit have started the season in brilliant fashion and headed to Bodymoor Heath on the back of a 2-1 triumph over West Ham United a week prior. On target for Aston Villa were Mason Birch and Dimitri Sea and while City were beaten, they remain in third position, five points behind leaders Chelsea. Peake recently spoke to LCFC.com to praise his side for their early season displays, citing players’ progression to the Under-23s as their main target this term. Later that day, the Club’s first team travelled to the south coast to take on Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth.
The encounter finished goalless at Vitality Stadium, with Shinji Okazaki going closest in the second period for the Foxes, while Jermain Defoe struck the crossbar for the hosts early on. A positive point given the Cherries’ early dominance, City will now have a two-week pause in league proceedings as the second international break of the term takes place.
There could be up to 14 City stars in action over the next few days, so be sure to stay tuned to LCFC.com to keep up-to-date with the Club’s international contingent. First Team League Standing: 17thNext Up: West Bromwich Albion (H)Top Scorer: J. Vardy (5)
