Here until the end of the 25/26 campaign, the Birmingham-born midfielder joins Julián Carranza and Jordan James in bolstering Martí Cifuentes’ squad as we head into the second month of this Sky Bet Championship season.
Recognised as a creative talent who is also capable of scoring goals of his own, Ramsey primarily operates as an attacking central midfielder, or occasionally from a wide position.
Part of a sporting family, older brother Jacob also made a move in this transfer window, heading to Newcastle United from Aston Villa, and young sibling Cole remains part of the Villa academy ranks too. Father Mark, meanwhile, was a professional boxer, twice fighting Ricky Hatton in the late 1990s.
Hailing from the Great Barr area of the Second City, the 22-year-old’s upbringing as an Aston Villa academy prospect proved a good grounding for the youngster to rise through the ranks from the age of eight and earn a first professional contract at Villa Park.
Similarly at international level, Ramsey captained his country at each age group from Under-16s to Under-20s, representing the Young Lions on 30 occasions. A UEFA EURO Under-19 Championship winner with England in 2022, the midfielder completed the scoring in the competition’s final.
Continuing to shine back in the West Midlands, meanwhile, playing a key role in lifting the 2021 FA Youth Cup, and hitting double figures for Premier League 2 goals during his first season at that level, it was soon time for a taste of senior football.
Debuting for his boyhood club at the start of the following season, Ramsey underlined his emerging talent as one of the country’s most exciting players.
Gaining League 1 experience with Cheltenham Town during the second half of the 21/22 campaign, he did enough to earn a first stint in the second tier with Norwich City.
Another step up, Ramsey quickly took to the rigours of the Championship, before injury cut short his time in Norfolk after just four months.
Injuries have blighted parts of his career, but the resilient Ramsey found another opportunity to shine in the division later that season, at Middlesbrough. A combined total of 12 goal contributions in 29 Championship matches for both clubs was enough for Burnley to swoop in that summer.
The newly promoted Clarets offered Premier League football to the ambitious youngster, leaving Villa Park permanently after 12 years. A quirk of fate saw Ramsey’s debut come against hometown club, one of 14 top flight appearances.
No doubt it would have been a far higher number had Ramsey not suffered a second, serious knee injury in February 2024, also ruling him out of almost the entire 24/25 campaign, playing just six minutes of football last term.
But bouncebackability has clearly formed a cornerstone of his journey and the 22-year-old, already a proven threat in this division, is set for his next stage at Leicester City.
