Bilal El Khannouss played 80 minutes as Morocco were beaten in the AFCON Final
Senegal won a dramatic clash in extra-time after disallowed goals and penalty controversy
El Khannouss has played often for Morocco at AFCON and started in Rabat on Sunday
He will now return to Stuttgart, where he is on loan this season
At the climax of a tense goalless draw at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, the first-ever meeting of the two nations in an AFCON tournament, it suddenly burst into life in barely believable circumstances.
El Khannouss, who had played the first 80 minutes, was watching on as Ismaila Sarr's header seemingly put Senegal in front in added time, but the referee had already blown his whistle for a foul.
Hosts Morocco were then awarded a penalty even deeper into stoppage time, but after a lengthy delay for VAR and then when Senegal's squad contested the decision, Brahim Díaz's tame panenka was saved by Édouard Mendy.
That took the showpiece into extra-time when Pape Gueye's rocket put Senegal in front and, despite Morocco's best efforts to fight back, which included Nayef Aguerd hitting the bar, it wasn't enough and Senegal sealed it.
El Khannouss has been used frequently throughout AFCON but, after heartbreak in Rabat, he will shortly return to Stuttgart, who head to AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday (8pm GMT kick-off).
