Recovering from injury has been O’Brien’s main aim for the best part of the last year and having made her first appearance back, in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea in December, the forward wants to take this opportunity to prove herself to Amandine Miquel.
A trio of substitute appearances have brought confidence back into our No.27, and this weekend’s match-up against Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League could provide her first chance to start.
“The last couple of years I’ve had a bit of bad luck when it comes to injuries,” O’Brien admitted. “I’ve been out for quite long periods of time, especially with this one.

“To make it back before Christmas, which was my aim, was a real nice relief that I could get back and then maybe just enjoy my break a bit and then hit the ground running at the start of the year.
“I just need minutes, and I need consistency and it’s the same as the team. I think it’s good that January is so busy; we don’t have a weekend where we don’t have a game.”
Previewing a tough test against the Reds, the 23-year-old understands this weekend won’t be an easy fixture but believes every game in this division brings its own challenges, and for her, it is to showcase her abilities.

“I don’t think you can underestimate how competitive the league is. It’s the best league in the world and it’s the best league in the world for a reason because like our game against Chelsea, it shows how competitive the league is.
"I’m desperate to try and get back to help the team get out of a relegation battle and get us safe and secure before the season ends."
Sunday’s matchday programme, which includes a full interview with O’Brien, will be available to purchase around the ground for £2.50.
