Long-term absentee Ricardo Pereira returned to team training this week
Fellow defender Woyo Coulibaly also trained with the squad following injury
Ruud van Nistelrooy provided updates on both in Friday’s press conference
The Manager spoke ahead of Sunday’s trip to face Chelsea in the Premier League
The Foxes head to Stamford Bridge this weekend aiming to get back on track against Enzo Maresca’s men and may welcome two full-backs into the squad for the trip to west London.
Coulibaly missed last Thursday’s defeat to West Ham United, not involved at London Stadium after the 25-year-old was replaced at half-time against Brentford, but his inclusion in training this week means he has every chance of playing a part back in the capital. Back involved at LCFC Training Ground.
“He’s fine,” the Dutchman said on Coulibaly, speaking to the media on Friday morning. “He had some little bits but as expected, he trained. He has today and tomorrow to train but, at the moment, he is available.” Ricardo, meanwhile, has not featured since early November, spending four months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury. Having made just two Premier League appearances so far this term, the Portuguese defender will not be rushed back but is now in contention for minutes. “This was his first week of full team training so he will be available for selection,” van Nistelrooy explained. “It is [a big deal]. He had one week of team training and we want to build him up and see how he goes and take it from there. It’s common sense.”
Also asked about the fitness within the rest of the squad, the Manager revealed that there is a clean bill of health and ‘so far’ no other issues, with only long-term absentee Abdul Fatawu remaining out of action.
