The 20-year-old defender has joined us from Manchester City, adding talent to Russell Martin’s backline ahead of the 26/27 Sky Bet League One campaign.

Speaking in Seagrave this week, before his first training session, the England youth international said: “I’m excited to play some games, train… everything.

“The intensity’s definitely going to change [from U21s football with Man City], coming to men’s football, and then obviously the demands of the coach and the team, but I’m ready to get started.

“I’m up for the challenge. I definitely want to develop more as a player. I want to develop mentally, physically, and just up my game to the next level.

“I can’t wait for my first training session, getting to play with everyone and get that chemistry going.”

Having come through the New York City academy across the pond, this is Brentwood-born McFarlane’s first loan away from Etihad Stadium since joining them last year – and he’s eager to get into the thick of the squad.

“I’m very social, I’m excited to meet everyone and hopefully make some new friends,” he added. “There’s so much to learn, especially from people that have played in the Premier League.

“With England, obviously at my first camp I was a bit nervous the first time in the dressing room, but eventually I got used to it. I met some new friends there as well so I’m used to it now.

“I’m just excited to get ready. I’m intense, aggressive. I’m both ends, attack and defending. Making runs in behind, just being a nuisance for the defence to be honest.

“Definitely when the opportunity arises, I like to get forward, either on the outside or the inside, whatever suits my game. One-on-one defending, defended crosses, I’m up for it. Especially when I see there’s a mismatch, I try to use this to my advantage.

“[Martin is] a great guy. I saw him a few weeks ago and today as well. We get on quite nicely. [He expects] similar things to what I’ve done at [Man] City.

“Attack and defending-wise, getting right in behind, defending one-vs.-one. It fits my game the best I think. He likes to keep the ball, so it’ll suit me perfectly to be honest.”

Your first chance to possibly see McFarlane in action for the Foxes comes this weekend, with the pre-season visit of Genoa to King Power Stadium (7:30pm BST kick-off), coming a day after an open training session on Filbert Way.
