The Leicester City Under-18s lost 2-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the U18 Premier League Cup

Adam Barradell shared his thoughts on the performance and the upcoming test against Southampton
A 2-0 reverse to Tottenham in the cup may not have been the result the coaching staff were looking for, but Barradell was keen to look at the bigger picture, outlining the key learning experiences for some of the younger individuals in the team, as a slow start to the second half led to the Foxes defeat. "In terms of the performance, the first half was probably the level we look for," the coach stated. "I think they played really well and limited Tottenham to three penalty box entries and had some opportunities ourselves.
"In the second half, when we changed the team a bit, the momentum changed and we conceded early, and the game changed from that point.
Battling hard in Seagrave.
"But it was a good opportunity to see a couple of individuals come up from the Under-16s and see how they adapted to Under-18s football, so that was good. The challenge going forward now is seeing if we can keep that level of performance for 90 minutes."
Without a win since August, Barradell understands the performances and results need to turn around, but discussed the importance of the players, and the overall job of the Academy staff to produce talented individuals to pass along the pathway.
"Ultimately our job is about moving players forward," he added. "When they come in the building as first-year scholars, it's making sure that they leave us as second-year scholars and move on to the Development Squad if they haven't already.
"It's always about moving individuals forward and seeing the player in front of you, and helping to not only develop their strengths but areas that they need to work on. The more experience they get with the older age groups, the better. We just need to make sure we keep the balance right and stay competitive in games."
The young Foxes return to U18 Premier League South action this Saturday when they welcome Southampton to LCFC Training Ground for an 11am GMT kick-off.
The young Foxes welcome Southampton to Seagrave this weekend.
Stating that every game in this division is a tough one that must be taken with the upmost focus, the coach sees the game against the fourth-placed Saints as a chance for the team to prove themselves before an all-important clash against Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup two weeks later.
"With every game in the league, it's always a challenging game and we expect no different on Saturday against Southampton," Barradell continued. "They're doing quite well in the league and we need to pick up where we are in terms of position and results.
"That's something we'll be working hard on to make sure that we get something at the weekend. We've got the FA Youth Cup coming up soon and with the Under-21s coming back for that, we hope that some of the boys in the Under-18s can stake their claim and stick in the team and Saturday is an opportunity for them to do that.
"We've got three games before the break, so it's important to go into the Youth Cup with a positive result and performance, although we know that team will look a little different to what we put out against Southampton.
"For the individuals, it's about putting in a good performance so that they can play in that game as I know they'll be relishing the opportunity to get in that team and play."
