Queens Park Rangers are the visitors to King Power Stadium on Saturday (3pm GMT kick-off), another crucial fixture as we bid to move away from the bottom three in the Sky Bet Championship.
Ahead of facing the R’s, City’s Manager sat down with the media inside LCFC Training Ground to discuss the impact of our midweek win and what will be required this time around…
‘It’s a squad game’

Having made three changes to the side that took to the field against the Robins, Rowett explained the importance of utilising the senior players he can call upon in such a situation, with greater significance placed on experience at this point in the season.
"It’s everything,” the 52-year-old began. “I spoke about it when we had a really young bench. We’ve got some really good young players but sometimes, when the pressure is on in the season, occasionally players that have been there and done it and see it [can help].
“Sometimes it can be a benefit to be a young player as they haven’t got the same fear or the same history with this stage of a season, but I think, with some of the players we’ve got, having the changes that we could make, I think the last game was a key example of that.
“Being able to bring on some of the players we did changed the feeling of the game. I think it’s the first time in a while, not only did we win, but we managed the last period of the game really well. That was down to the ability off the bench. That’s something I’ve got to look at as well.
“Of course, you always want to pick your best team, and the team that will win the game, but I also think sometimes it’s nice to just hold something back for the end of the game.
“The players are aware of that. It’s a squad game, it’s all about winning, whether you start or come on, it’s equally important. We’ve got some good options and that will be crucial in these remaining games.
“When you get to this stage of the season, there can be different narratives around players but I’m mindful that I have to treat every player from anew and how they are with me and how they’ve been in training.
“That’s how I’ll pick the team every game, rather than people’s perceptions of what they want me to pick. I think that’s important.”
'Go again'

Assessing the visitors, who are winless in their last four under Julian Stéphan and currently sit 18th, Rowett is keen to focus on City’s own strengths in order to build on the three points earned four days ago.
“We’ll do our diligence on every team that we play,” the Manager continued. “We’ll look at their strengths and where we feel like we can hurt them. I’m always respectful of opponents and anybody’s qualities. Any team that is in this division can beat any other.
“But certainly at home it’s about what we do and really focusing on that. We’ll do all the work but it’s about your own mentality and doing things right, maintaining your own standards.
“That’s what I said to the players after Tuesday night’s game. There’s a nice feeling in the stadium and the dressing room but it’s one game. For me, it’s how we respond to that and use it? Are we mentally strong enough to go again and be even better next time?
“It’s a lot better than where we were. It’s always hard because it’s important but it won’t be important if we lose every game after that. It’s building some momentum and a feeling of what we need to do consistency to win games.
“The players are starting to feel that a little bit in the meetings, in training, but we’ve got to go and do it again. The feeling of winning is a feeling everyone in football wants to replicate, that’s why we’re in the game.
“It’s those moments after games when the crowd are up, everyone is together and it feels like there’s a real buzz in the stadium. You want that every game but it’s not going to be possible.
“The mentality to try and achieve that. I’ve spoken to them about that in training. Today was the first day where we have to start right to win the game. You don’t just switch it on in the game, you have to do it as the product of everything you do and create during the week. That’s super important.
“It’s about being clear on the direction and what we need to do to achieve what we need to achieve. It’s trying to reinforce the messages of things we’ve done well in games because that’s how you build some element of success in your performances.
“The players have responded well. It’s trying to treat players with respect. We’ve got good players with different experiences. You can learn off the players as a manager and we’re trying to create a culture of everyone being a part of what we want to achieve, whether you play for five minutes or 10 minutes.
“Whether that’s galvanised the group, or they are just playing with a slightly different confidence, I always felt the first period of the four games, with three away from home and two of those Ipswich and Middlesbrough, we knew it was a tough start, a tough test. Norwich as well are close to the top of the form charts.
“I’m quite pleased that we’re disappointed that we haven’t had more points. Tuesday was just an example of what you can do when you put those elements together.”
‘We need the fans’

Saving the final word for the Blue Army, Rowett issued a rallying cry for Foxes fans to continue their support of the team this weekend, in order to help get us over the line.
“We’re going to need the fans,” he added. “You can’t create success as a football team without the fans behind us. We know at this place it has been so important. On Tuesday you saw that a little bit. They got behind an energetic performance, a front foot performance, a performance full of desire.
“That’s what we’ve got to do. Our responsibility as a team is to create a performance that they can get behind, look like a team who really care about what we’re doing and I think that comes out in different ways.
“In turn, it’s going to be important that they get behind us like they have done and maintain that. There isn’t always going to be 2-0 wins at home. It might be 0-0 after 60 minutes and we need their backing. It goes two ways and I’ve been really grateful for what they’ve given us so far.
“We need even more energy. When the game kicks off, we need everyone together and that’s my message from game one to game 14, that won’t change because it’s vitally important.”
Tickets are still available for you to join us on Filbert Way as we tackle QPR!
