  • Harry Souttar was Australia's captain in a 1-1 draw with Switzerland
  • Australia are in Group D of the FIFA World Cup and begin against Türkiye this weekend
  • Bilal El Khannouss was a second-half substitute for Morocco in their 1-1 draw with Norway
  • Abdul Fatawu and Jordan Ayew are also heading to the World Cup
  • Hamza Choudhury was in friendly action for Bangladesh, beating San Marino 2-1
Becoming the 66th man to skipper the Socceroos from the start of a senior game, Souttar played 81 minutes in San Diego as his national side drew 1-1 with Switzerland.
Dan Ndoye opened the scoring for the Swiss before a Tete Yengi equaliser early in the second half for Australia. They open their World Cup group stage campaign on Sunday against Türkiye before taking on hosts USA and then Paraguay, hoping to go further than their Round of 16 appearance in Qatar four years ago.

Elsewhere, Bilal El Khannouss, who spent the 25/26 campaign on loan at Stuttgart, also featured for Morocco in their 1-1 stalemate with Norway as Brahim Díaz's eighth-minute strike was cancelled out by Martin Ødegaard.
El Khannouss came on as a 63rd-minute substitute for the Atlas Lions, who are set to tackle Brazil, Scotland and Haiti in Group C in this summer's showpiece.
Abdul Fatawu
There was no game for Ghana - with Abdul Fatawu and departing striker Jordan Ayew in their squad - over the weekend, having recently drawn 1-1 with Wales in preparation for Group L, containing Panama, England and Croatia.
Away from World Cup matters, Hamza Choudhury also represented his country on Friday as Bangladesh defeated San Marino 2-1 in an international friendly. Topi Barman's double, including an 86th-minute winner, was ultimately enough for the victory.
