  • Our Manager Gary Rowett reflects on our 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town
  • Patson Daka’s opener at Portman Road was equalised by Sindre Walle Egeli
  • Rowett was pleased with both the quality and application on show from his players in Suffolk
  • He also expressed his gratitude to the 1,800 members of the Blue Army who made their voices heard on Saturday
Patson Daka’s first-half volley was levelled by Sindre Walle Egeli after the break and, while Leicester City need wins on the board, our Manager was pleased with the efforts it took to secure an admirable point at a promotion-chasing outfit.
“It’s a well-earned point,” he told us at full-time. “I thought we were excellent in the first half. We got into some brilliant positions. Defensively, I thought our structure was really good.
“They started to change and tweak one or two players, and the height of their players, when they built possession. I thought we dealt with it reasonably well.
“They always cause problems down the left-hand side. I think the directness of [Leif] Davis’ runs, it almost means that you sacrifice a winger to run back with him, or you take a risk on opening the spaces to leave your winger high.

“It was a bit of both for us. I thought we got into some great positions and deserved to go a goal ahead. Coming in at half-time, I was really pleased.
“I think the challenge we’ve had in the games is just maintaining that energy and maintaining that quality.
“Of course, you’ve also got an opponent that is going to be super determined to come out and pin you back in the second half like they’ve done so often.
“I’ve seen this Ipswich team under Kieran [McKenna] score so many late goals. I thought actually, while we were disappointed to concede, and they were really on top of us in the second half, we actually defended the box pretty well for the whole of it.”
Rowett wants his players to build on the positives, pointing to a run of home games coming up – not least the double-header next week vs. Bristol City and QPR – as we look to earn the points to climb out of the bottom three and up the table.
He was also keen to applaud the away end, with 1,800 fans making the 26-mile round trip to Ipswich, for the role they played in helping us earn a valuable point on the road.
“This team has shown quality in every training session,” he added. “That’s what I’ve been so pleased about, they’ve started to show that quality that we’ve got.
“I think everybody outside, looking at our squad, probably asks the same question: Do the players want to work hard enough or do the other side of a game?

“I think we have done in the three games. I cannot fault the players. If anything, I’m saying we need to play with more quality because we’ve got that quality.
“Coming to places like this and causing the problems we did in the first half shows how capable the group is. I like to see the other side because you know it’s there.
“We now need to start piecing together those sides of the game in one performance, particularly at home. We’ve got six home games out of the next nine.
“I think there’s a real opportunity for us to really try and put our foot on the gas a little bit. I was pleased with today. I felt we worked incredibly hard.
“I thought the crowd showed their appreciation at the end. We’re out on our feet. We’ve had to make lots of different changes to stay in the game and I think the crowd certainly applauded the players’ efforts.
“It's so important that we all stand together. I think that’s a really important part of it.
“We know that. I said that when I first came in. I spoke about that camaraderie and the connection between the players and the fans.
“Our fans have travelled in great numbers again, in great voice. It makes such a massive difference. I massively appreciate that.”
