The Welsh midfielder joined on a season-long loan deal from Ligue 1 side Rennes on Monday evening, returning to England after spending over a decade at Birmingham City.
Following a campaign in France, regular football is the main target for the 21-year-old, who believes he has developed a lot from understanding a different style of football, as well as maturing through the off-field experiences, building his character as a player and a person.
“I’m very happy,” James told us after signing. “It was a late one, but I’m glad it’s over the line. Not many people do it on Deadline Day, so it was nice to get it done. Coming here, I just can’t wait to get started and I can’t wait to play football regularly; that’s the main thing for me.
“Going away in France, I was in the team and out the team, so it was a bit of an up and down season, but I take the good from it and I feel like I’ve grown from it.
“For me, it was a big step to leave. I was at Birmingham for 10 years, but to go to another country was even harder. I’m so glad I did it. I feel like, as a person, I’ve grown a lot, both on and off the pitch.

“Coming back here now, I’m more confident. I feel I’ve got so much more as a person and I know that on the pitch will sort itself out.”
Speaking about the initial interest from City, James explained his reasoning behind choosing to make Leicestershire his next destination, sparking a determination to assist in achieving the Club’s goals for the season ahead, having watched on from afar in recent weeks.
“When Leicester came calling, it was something I was really open to,” the Wales international continued. “I know where the Club’s heading and it’s only going to go one way. Obviously, the history of the Club is that, for me, it’s a Premier League club and that’s where I want to take them.
“This year, it is my aim to help the Club and help my team-mates to get us to where we know the Club should be. I’ve always thought highly of Leicester; I’ve always said I’d suit a club like Leicester.

“Whenever I’ve played against them, I always like the way that they play and I love the fans, I think they are really good, always trying to help the players. Hopefully when we win, we can all celebrate together.
“I watched the game against Blues and I thought they were just in control, and that’s what I love to do - be in control, have the ball and hurt teams. And also be able to stay compact and do the defensive side. From watching that, it really excites me.
“I think it really suits me. We’ve thought really hard about it, this move, because it’s really important with the World Cup coming up. I thought this was a good move for me, both football wise and mentally.”
