England faced Jamaica on Sunday evening at King Power Stadium
Ella Toone, Lucy Bronze and Beth Mead among the scorers on Filbert Way
The Lionesses now head to Switzerland for the 2025 UEFA Women’s EUROs
For only the second-ever time, this Sunday saw Filbert Way play host to the senior England Women’s team, having previously taken on Belgium in October of 2023, that time winning 1-0 in the UEFA Women’s Nations League thanks to a lone goal from Lauren Hemp.
Flash forward 20 months and Sarina Wiegman’s side were back in the East Midlands, this time to face Jamaica in friendly action, reconvening at the home of Leicester City for international duty.
Filbert Way played host to the Lionesses for just the second time.
One of our own, Chantelle Swaby, was in action during the international game, lining up alongside her sister Allyson Swaby in defence, but she couldn’t stop a rampant England side from hitting seven in the East Midlands.
Ella Toone opened the scoring with a pinpoint effort from range before Lucy Bronze made a darting run into the box from the flank to add her name to the scoresheet; Toone's second gave the Lionesses a commanding lead at the break.
The current European champions showed no sign of letting up in the second period as goals from Georgia Stanway, Alessia Russo and Aggie Beever-Jones, soon completed with a late strike from Beth Mead, made it seven at the final whistle.
That now puts an end to England’s preparation for this summer’s EUROs as the Lionesses jet off to Switzerland, attempting to retain their title, with the competition starting next week.
England hit six past Jamaica.
It will be no easy task, however, with France and the Netherlands, along with a home nation rivalry against Wales, standing in their way of progression to the knockout stages from Group D.
Kicking-off their tournament on Saturday 5th July at Stadion Letzigrund (8pm BST kick-off), we wish them, and all of our Foxes set to feature throughout the competition, the best of luck.
