If you’re planning on attending every away game in our 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship campaign, then this article is for you.
The obvious answer is that there are 23 away grounds we’ll attend in the league, but what you might not know is that our fixtures will tally up a distance just shy of 5,000 miles across the UK’s road network.
From the Midlands to the south coast, to North Yorkshire and even Wales, we’ve triangulated the position of every opponent’s stadium, to work out who is closest, and which games might require a stop-over.
Coventry City will be our shortest trip this season.

With the M69 derby back on the calendar this season, it’s no surprise that our trip to Coventry City on Saturday 17 January, 2026, works out as the closest; a mere 25 miles separating us from the Coventry Building Society Arena.
At the other end of the scale, it may also not come as too much of a shock that the Swansea.com Stadium will be our furthest drive, 174 miles to be exact, when we make the trip across the border on Saturday 4 October to face Swansea City.
We’ll head to Wales once again three months later, to face newly-promoted AFC Wrexham under the lights in a blockbuster clash on Tuesday 20 January – but not to worry as that journey to the north of the country only comes in at 110 miles each way.
Clocking up at 174 miles, our trip to south Wales to face Swansea comes in as the furthest game.
Clocking up at 174 miles, our trip to south Wales to face Swansea comes in as the furthest game.
But at just 18 miles less than a round-trip to the Swans, we have two games in this country that will require an early departure; one to the north against Middlesborough, and one to the south, when we face Portsmouth.
Riverside Stadium, home of The Boro, will be the venue for Championship action on Tuesday 24 February, whereas our trip to the south coast to face Pompey at Fratton Park, will occur on Saturday 18 April – the penultimate away trip of the campaign.
But don’t fret, as within those two limits, we have plenty of shorter distances on the planner. Derby County is our second closest ground at 34 miles away, followed by Birmingham City at 44, and West Bromwich Albion at 49.
Trips to Stoke City, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday are all around the 70 mile-mark one way, as 14 of the 23 are based at a location over 100 miles away from Filbert Way.
City will return to Kassam Stadium for a first competitive fixture in over 30 years.
City will return to Kassam Stadium for a first competitive fixture in over 30 years.
Over the coming 11 months, we’ll also head to Norfolk, Suffolk, Bristol, Lancashire and Hampshire, among others, but on only three occasions will we head to London, with Millwall and Charlton both standing at 124 miles from base, whereas Queens Park Rangers is 23 closer to home.
Across the season, we’ll travel the same straight-line distance from New York to Los Angeles, and back again. But for those of you wondering, our Carabao Cup First Round trip to Huddersfield Town comes in just below the average at 96 miles for one leg, so what’s a little extra to factor in.
Our full fixture list for the 25/26 Championship season can be found here.
Please note that distances, calculated in miles, were worked out using the quickest route available from King Power Stadium via road networks at the time of publish.
