Leicester City Under-18s beat Norwich City 4-3 on Saturday
Lorenz Hutchinson scored a late winner in Seagrave
Coach Adam Barradell speaks on his team's recent form
City’s youngsters came out on top in a seven-goal thriller for the second time in seven days, beating Brighton & Hove Albion before their recent victory over Norwich City. Delighted to come out with a late winner in Seagrave, the coach believes it shouldn’t have got to that point having held a commanding lead earlier in the game.
“We knew Norwich well, having played them not long ago and it started as quite a cagey affair with not a lot of chances,” Barradell explained. “But we managed to score before half-time.
Putting the Foxes in front.
“There were some good play at times but we weren’t ruthless enough in the second half to see the game out more comfortably.
“We shouldn’t have let the game get to 3-3 but credit to the lads to get the winner after conceding two goals to be pegged back level again. It’s one of the best ways to win a game, scoring in the last minute.”
The first half of the season was certainly a testing one for our Under-18s but recent weeks has seen a resurgence in results which has led to a climb up the U18 Premier League table.
The coach went on to talk about how things like this can be common in Academy football when working with young, and still developing, individuals.
“In youth development, you see a lot of swings in development and that’s natural,” Barradell continued. “You’re going to see big swings in results, but I’m pleased with the amount we’re scoring at the moment and the attacking output.
“They’re playing some excellent attacking football, but with young players, it’s not about the defensive unit but the team and you can see that naivety and being too open at times, but that’s part of their development.
“In the first half of the season, we’ve had to deal with the progression of players to the Under-21s group, along with some injuries that we’ve had, but what we have had is the emergence of players coming through.
“It’s important we put players in at the right time and not too early, and not too late, and I think we’ve got that right to add to the competition within the squad and you can see the results of that.”
Leicester’s next challenge sees the young Foxes travel to Sobha Realty Training Centre to face Arsenal on Saturday morning (12:30pm GMT kick-off) as the coach hopes to keep this momentum going.
Barradell added: “It’s the first time that we’ll play Arsenal this year, but it’s always a difficult task. We’re looking forward to the end of the season, and we’re in a position now to keep this momentum going and look up the league.
“It’s exciting time for the young lads coming through and transitioning before next season so exciting times ahead and hopefully we can keep going with a positive result at the weekend.”
