  • Arsenal came out on top last Sunday against LCFC Women
  • Alessia Russo, Stina Blackstenius and Noémie Mounchon were on the WSL scoresheet
  • Julie Thibaud reflected on the loss at King Power Stadium
A slow first half, which saw Arsenal three goals up after strikes from Alessia Russo and Stina Blackstenius (2), made it a difficult task for City to come back from.
Admitting we didn’t put in the shift needed to challenge the WSL heavyweights, Thibaud is determined to learn from this and show the league what this team can do.
“It was a tough one for us,” the defender stated. “We didn’t show a lot, especially in the first half, but we didn’t do enough. Credit to them, they scored goals, they explored the space in behind and they are a good team.

“But we need to do better and do better in the duels. The second half was better, but we were still not good enough. Against a good team, we know we need to be at the top level, so we need to get back to work as next week we have an important game.
“We will reflect after this game but then we will prepare to go again.”
One of the toughest games in the calendar, the centre-back relishes the opportunity to feature in these sorts of games, understanding that playing the best is what will make you better.
“For the players, it is a good moment because we know we’ll face the best players in the world so it’s a good moment to show who we are,” Thibaud continued.
“Today, we didn’t do that, and we didn’t put enough into the game, and we need to take this opportunity to show who Leicester are, but today wasn’t good enough.
Thibaud believes playing against the best will makes us better.

“The plan (at half-time) was to forget what had happened and go again like it’s 0-0. Of course, we wanted to get a result in the second half, and in that respect, it was 1-1.
“We did better, but it’s not good enough. At half-time, he (Passmoor), said we needed to track them better, be stronger in the battles and build that consistency.
“We wanted to do better in the second half, and we’ll build on the positives and reflect on the things we didn’t do as well.”
Speaking on her French team-mate, Noémie Mouchon, she was delighted to see her have a positive impact from the bench and explained how she brings much more than just goals in the frontline.
Thibaud added: “She is French, so we have a good connection of course, but it’s always good to see this kind of player come off the bench, after having such a bad injury, and have an impact.

“She scores goals, but she does more than that; she brought energy, and we know that the people on the bench are with us and ready to go when needed.
“This league is so competitive, and we want to get points against every team, and we know West Ham haven’t started well this season, so we need to take this opportunity.
“Every time I step out onto the pitch, I want to get three points, but we know how important it is this weekend, and we don’t want to be the first team to give them points this season.”
