LCFC Women beaten 4-1 by Brighton & Hove Albion
Shannon O’Brien scored her second in as many games
Rick Passmoor reflected on the loss at AMEX Stadium
LCFC Women made the longest trip of the season at the weekend, and started well at AMEX Stadium, but were eventually undone by a hard-working Brighton side. One goal down at the break, Passmoor spoke about missed chances in the opening stages of the game in his post-match interview, but still took heart from what he saw on the south coast.
“In terms of what we assess, we’re still developing and learning,” the Manager stated. “What you saw in the first 25 minutes was very good in terms of in possession, unlocking their defence and creating chances.
We were beaten on the road last weekend.
“We could’ve had a couple of goals, so that was positive, and then another positive was when Shannon [O’Brien] scored, and we got back to 2-1.
“We changed formation, used the bench once more and added energy to the team to create more chances in and around their box.
“At 2-1, we’re chasing the game, and when you lose the ball in the areas we did, Brighton took advantage like any team would in this league and punished us.
“We need to learn from this game, of course we’re disappointed but we need to look at the positives from today.”
Shannon O’Brien scored her second in as many games, have netted a late equaliser at West Ham United last time out.
Shannon O'Brien scored a second half consolation goal.
Believing that Brighton took advantage of our late push to salvage another point on the road, the Manager wants his team to remain focused on our core principles set in place, believing the rewards will start to come from our efforts.
“I’m confident in this group of players to keep collecting points and keep moving in the right direction,” Passmoor continued.
“We need to keep working at training and putting it into practice at the weekend and I’m sure the points will come.
“We need to look after ourselves, our game plan and philosophy, and not worry about what other teams in the league are doing.
“From day one, I’ve said these games don’t define us, but we have our processes we can implement, and we know what our target is, so we need to make sure we rest and recover to go again.”
We remain ninth in the WSL after defeat in Brighton.
The last mention of the day was for the Blue Army, who had made the long trip down to the south coast to support his side.
Given a free Leicester City scarf, and a signed squad photo, Passmoor said this was a chance for the Club to show our appreciation to those who make the effort to keep the noise going.
He added: “They (the fans) are magnificent. The noise that we create at King Power Stadium and on the road is incredible. They’re a credit to us and we want to continue to grow with them and repay them.
“Right now, I just want to thank each and every one of them for coming down to Brighton today.”
