LCFC Women were beaten 1-0 by Everton last weekend
Julie Thibaud reacts post-match at Goodison Park
The central defender won POTM in the Barclays WSL fixture
With bottom spot in the league already confirmed, Saturday’s trip to Merseyside would have been nothing more than a confidence builder ahead of our play-off against Charlton Athletic.
A late goal from Mayumi Pacheco condemned us to defeat, but Thibaud is proud of her team-mates’ effort on the pitch and believes there are still positives to take from the game. Julie spoke post-match at Goodison after a late winner for the hosts.
“We are really disappointed with the result, the performance was there, we just missed our chances and the goal at the end of the game was unfortunate,” the defender stated.
“Everyone is trying to do their best, do their job and today everyone showed up which is why it’s frustrating for us.
“We have a game next week, but we can build a lot from today and take the positives into the play-off.”
Saturday’s play-off game against Charlton Athletic provides us with a second chance of survival, should we beat the WSL2 third-placed side.
Admitting it’s been a season that no one at Leicester has been happy with, the French centre-half said the squad are ready to dig deep and do the job required of them this weekend.
The French defender urged the Foxes to keep pushing.
Thibaud added: “It’s been a tough season for us, and we didn’t want to be in this position. Today we are, but we want to fight until the end.
“We had a good performance, and it’s just unfortunate we conceded a goal at the end, but we absolutely want to stay in this league.
“The main thing we’ll take is the fight and the spirit, that’s the main thing in football, you have to be better than your opponent, so you have to play 90-100 minutes and be better.
“I think we were better with the ball today, and showed calmness, we found players and had different opportunities, so we’ll take that forward.”
