LCFC Women beat London City Lionesses at the weekend
The 1-0 win came in the Subway Women’s League Cup
Jutta Rantala scored the only goal at the CopperJax Community Stadium
Rick Passmoor was delighted with the team’s performance against a good side
The weekend's victory came in the Subway Women’s League Cup where a lone goal from Jutta Rantala saw us make it two from two in the competition, topping Group D heading into the final group stage game. Also a second clean sheet away from home in as many weeks, City's Manager was proud to see his side stick together through the momentum changes to see out an impressive win against London City.
“We’re always developing and learning; it was a game of two halves,” Passmoor told the media post-match. “In the first half, the players' resilience and professionalism were excellent. During the week we looked at how we could improve, and we saw that.
Rantala scored her second of the season in London.
“We wanted to get into the final third and create chances, which, when you look at the stats, we achieved against a very good team.
“In the second half, it was a little bit different, but you’re playing away from home against a good side so it’s going to be tough.
“We really stuck in there and were solid defensively throughout. We had a combination of all areas of the pitch in one day, so coming down here and getting the victory was great to see.”
Wet and windy conditions were also in play at CopperJax Community Stadium, and up against a side who have looked promising this season, Passmoor believes the three points cannot be taken for granted.
He added: “The game can change with the momentum, and it’s then about how you adapt to that, which happened in the second half, but the players remained in the game, remained focused and continued to play.
Passmoor spoke about work on the training pitch translating into results.
“I’m really pleased with all aspects of the game and the players should be proud of what they’ve achieved, but we’ve got to have more consistency and drive forward.
“It’s too early, we still need to learn and grow, but we’ve got a fantastic mentality, and we need to train every day like it’s a game day to maximise our potential.”
A third win of the season across all competitions, the Foxes are unbeaten in three, and even though the Manager understands we are a long way off the final product, he is delighted with the way the team are composing themselves in the early stages of his tenure.
“You can never look too far down the line, only what’s right in front of you,” Passmoor continued. “We’re still learning but what we can control is the culture and the work ethic to be better, making sure we are competitive in every game.
“We want to keep building to show people on the outside how good Leicester City are. There will be lots of ups and downs but we’re going into the international break with a good win.”
