LCFC Women fell to a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon
Jess Park netted the only goal of the game at King Power Stadium
Manager Amandine Miquel reacted to the narrow reverse on home soil
Park’s second half goal was enough to separate the sides, although we had our chances to score, Hannah Cain coming closest when she saw her one-on-one effort saved with the scoreline still goalless.
But despite defeat against the Citizens, the Manager was proud of the Foxes' determination to execute the game plan and believes it will put them in good stead for the remaining two games. “The game plan worked quite well, even better I felt in the second half,” Miquel stated. “We ended up taking a goal because we didn’t slide quick enough in the box.
A narrow defeat on Filbert Way.
“But still then, I think we had enough occasions to score at least one goal and we’re disappointed to not do that.
“It was a good unit, when you defend a bit lower it might be a bit boring to watch but against those types of teams it’s the best way to reduce goals they can score, but you also have to be able to finish your transitions and we couldn’t.”
The introduction of Nelly Las in the second half brought a much-needed inject of energy in the latter stages of the game, with the 17-year-old showcasing her potential against one of the country’s best sides.
Although there is still plenty of learning required from the youngster, the former Stade de Reims Manager was pleased with her impact in a short space of time.
Miquel added: “We have to accept that when you bring in younger players, they’re not perfect, but even the older ones are not perfect, so we learn from situations, but I thought she brought a lot of energy and helped to finish the game.”
Two games remain for the Foxes this season.
Two games remain now, the first against relegated Crystal Palace, but Miquel believes it there is still a job to do, with a record highest points tally remaining possible with a win in the capital.
“It’s still business as usual,” the Manager confirmed. “We focus on ourselves, and we said we’d count the points at the end. We have two games to go and our objective is to go as high as we can and keep this team progressing and to do that we need to keep pushing.
“We are going to do the best we can in the last two games. It’s great to know we’ll be in this league next year but we’ll keep pushing until the end.”
