LCFC Women beat Sheffield United 1-0 on Sunday afternoon

Our WSL2 campaign began in Sheffield on Sunday afternoon, and after a tight affair, it was the Foxes who came out on top, after a second half own goal from Leanne Cowan, forced by Sam Tierney, made the difference.

Emilia Pelgander’s dismissal in the final 10 minutes made it a nervy ending, but the Manager believes the key aspects of our philosophy were there to see, as we started the season with maximum points.

Seven of our eight summer signings were involved in Sunday's action.

“Right now, the emotion is that it is a first league away win in two seasons for Leicester City,” Passmoor explained. “A clean sheet, and for 70-75 minutes, we’re in a comfortable position.

“We’ve got to make sure at 1-0, can you make it 2-0. The players are delighted coming away with the three points, and on Tuesday, we’re back at it again.

“It was a test, that last 15 minutes, when we went down to 10 players, and there’s a lot of learning and growth, but how many new debuts we had, how many new players are on the pitch, you could see some of the Leicester identity we want to show.”

Speaking more on the Leicester identity he and his staff are trying to implement, Passmoor was happy with many aspects of the game but admitted there are learning points which must be addressed, but are expected at this early stage of the season.

A second half goal made the difference to the scoreline at Bramall Lane.

He added: “We’ve worked with the staff and players in terms of our identity, but the three things we’ve want to headline is our ambition, unity and resilience, and in those 15 minutes you saw that.

“The first game of the season, it’s like a cup tie, because everyone wants to get off to a good start, so we had all three components of that.

“We utilised the squad, with subs off the bench and the debuts starting today. Coming away from home and getting a 1-0 victory, we’re delighted with that, but there’s much more learning for us all.”

Crediting the fans for their effort.

Next Sunday, we welcome Durham to King Power Stadium for our first home game of the season. Wanting to keep the momentum going, the Manager believes the fans will have a big part to play in any success this term.

“The support again was there today and the players recognise it,” Passmoor continued. “They are doing their upmost to represent the Club, so we want to take that momentum forward.

“We need to learn and grow together from the detail we’ll be providing in training, to make sure the players are as best prepared as they can be.
