  • Leicester City beat Derby County 3-1 in the Sky Bet Championship
  • Bobby De Cordova-Reid was among the goals at Pride Park
  • Oliver Skipp and Jordan James also contributed to the victory
  • It was a deserved three points for the Foxes according to the attacker
Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship triumph stopped a run of consecutive defeats for Martí Cifuentes’ men, who were relentless during the first half at Pride Park, sweeping the Rams aside with goals from De Cordova-Reid, Oliver Skipp and Jordan James inside 32 minutes.
Also keen to praise the City supporters’ contribution, with over 3,000 of the Blue Army packed into the away end for the East Midlands derby, roaring the Foxes on, particularly when momentum could have swung Derby’s way after Sondre Langås pulled one back.
“We started the game well,” he reflected post-match. “We knew what we needed to do and we executed the gameplan perfectly. We had a lot of the ball, we won duels in the right areas and the territory and got our three goals.
“Going in at half-time 3-0 up, the second half was going to be different. We knew they were going to come out firing with nothing to lose. It was a case of doing the right things, riding it out. We could have done better in the second half but nonetheless we got the three points.

“That one’s for the fans, we gave them something to shout about. They were loud today and we appreciate it. They gave us a big boost, we got the three points and they go home happy.
“I think we needed to show something and today was the day. The players were working and fighting for the cause. That’s what we need to do, first and foremost. We’ll move on and keep going.”
The opener, De Cordova-Reid’s neat finish from James’ through ball, got us started and the attacker is enjoying being back in the rhythm of getting game time again, having now made successive league starts.
“It was good play,” he commented on the first goal, his second of the season. “As soon as the ball went to JJ, I knew what I was going to do and he played it perfectly. The weight was good and I thought just to get it on target. I back myself in those situations. Thankfully it went in and got us off to a good start.
“I had a few injuries and at the start of the season I was out. It’s good to get a run of games. I still feel like I’ve got more fitness to gain and that will come with more game time.”

The 32-year-old was pleased to turn the tables after a disappointing couple of weeks results-wise, getting us back on the right footing heading into the busy Christmas period, which begins at Bristol City on Wednesday night, aiming to use this as a platform for further successes.
“It’s performances like today,” he added. “The team is understanding what we need to do – do the basics well and compete. That’s what we did and our quality showed.
“At times it wasn’t pretty, but we ground it out. We didn’t give them time. Teams are going to have spells in games and it’s how we ride those moments out.
“We’ve got to be ruthless in both boxes and when we needed to take our chances, we took them. We have experienced players like Jordan [Ayew] and Skippy who know how to win a game.
“We’ve got to take the confidence and energy going into Wednesday and other games of what worked well, continue to do it and obviously there’s always something to improve.”
