Leicester City in the Community (LCitC) support parkrun at Victoria Park
Matt Elliott and Steve Walsh initiated the start and gave runners encouragement
Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and Chair of LCitC, Mike Kapur OBE, took part in the event
Leicester Victoria parkrun is held every Saturday at 9am
The free event at Victoria Park in Leicester city centre aimed to raise awareness of stress-related challenges while promoting the benefits of physical activity, social connection and community support.
Runners were welcomed at the start line by Club legends Matt Elliott and Steve Walsh, who officially set the run in motion, while sharing words of encouragement and helping to build excitement as participants prepared to take on the 5k route.
Furthermore, those who took part did so alongside Mike Kapur OBE, Lord Lieutenant of Leicestershire and Chair of Leicester City in the Community, who is running every parkrun in Leicestershire this year, promoting the benefits of physical activity and social connections.
Held each Saturday at Victoria Park, parkrun is open to everyone - you can run, jog, walk, push a buggy or bring your dog - you just need to register once online and bring your personal barcode to get your time recorded. This parkrun shone a light on the work and impact of our charitable arm, Leicester City in the Community, who play a vital role in supporting mental wellbeing in children and adults across Leicester and Leicestershire.
Through a range of targeted programmes, including physical activity sessions, educational workshops and community outreach, the charity positively impacts hundreds of individuals facing stress, anxiety and social isolation in our region.
Some of their mental health and wellbeing projects include Play On, supporting children and young people in partnership with Child and Adolescence Mental Health Services and the NHS, along with Goal Difference, which utilises football-themed resources to reach out to participants.
They also host weekly mental health support sessions at King Power Stadium and deliver activities for older supporters through the Silver Foxes group.
Their initiatives focus on creating safe, inclusive environments where participants can improve both physical and mental health, while building meaningful connections and friendships.
All parkrun events are organised by volunteers - if you would like to support and give your time to help parkrun at Victoria Park, please email leicestervictoria@parkrun.com. Image courtesy of Leicester Victoria parkrun.
