Martí Cifuentes hails Leicester City’s resilience in Monday’s 2-1 win over Derby
He also thanks the Blue Army for their contribution to a significant three points
Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan James scored as we did the double over the Rams
The Manager was also pleased with the contribution of the Academy players
Goals from Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Jordan James came either side of Rhian Brewster’s for the Rams, as Leicester City ended 2025 with an important victory.
Coming after two disappointing defeats before and after Christmas, it’s a chance for the Foxes to get back on track, currently sitting 12th in the Sky Bet Championship table.
“I’m super happy for the players because I think they showed determination, resilience as well, to beat Derby for a second time,” Cifuentes said.
“It’s always important in these kind of games. I need to say that I felt the atmosphere today was top.
“Thank you to the fans, because I felt that their support was outstanding in a difficult period for the Club. Thank you to all of them, to the players for their effort, and to the fans for their support.”
To win a derby game and to halt a downturn in results was especially significant for the Manager, who credited his side’s reaction to Derby levelling the scores at King Power Stadium.
We had to battle for the points too, with Hamza Choudhury and Aaron Ramsey forced to depart earlier than planned, but with key contributions from the bench – and the Academy – the Manager was pleased with the win.
“It was definitely very important, especially because it has been disappointing, difficult days for all the group,” he added. “We were hurt after the last couple of games, but I think the guys are showing that they care.
“There is a team out there that is trying to do their best. Obviously it’s not going to be perfect all of the time.
“We know, in this league especially, we need to grind it out, but I think you could see the nature of the game as well. We had a good first half. We started well.
“It was disappointing to concede that early after our first goal, but then I think the team reacted well. Then, in the second half, I’m so pleased with the energy coming from the bench. I think the players that came from the bench did really well.
“Obviously we’re disappointed that we lost both Hamza and Aaron with injuries – in this period, when it’s congested, we know that can happen – but hopefully they won’t be big ones. I’m so pleased for a lot of Academy players on the pitch and I’m very pleased with the bench impact.”
