We make the trip to Luton Town on Saturday for a 12:30pm BST kick-off
Russell Martin provided a squad update during Friday’s press conference in Seagrave
Wes Burns has recovered from an illness while Conor Chaplin and Will Smallbone are ready to start if required
A win over Luton in Saturday’s early kick-off would make it three victories on the bounce for the Foxes, after wins to Doncaster Rovers, and Bromley midweek. During a busy period in the calendar, the Manager announced that there are no new injury concerns in the squad, confirming that winger Wes Burns is back in for contention, after recovering from an illness this week.
Speaking with the media pre-Luton.
“Everyone is in a good place and Wes Burns is back and well after being unwell for a few days which is good news,” Martin explained to the media. “Will [Smallbone] is going to be a huge addition for us, so it’s great to get him on the pitch.
“Harry Howell, Liam Cullen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, are doing well. Bobby and Culls [Cullen] have been out of the team, but they’re amazing people, and the energy they bring is great. They can both fulfill different roles, and they had to the other night, so I’m really pleased with them as I am with everyone.
“Whether people are on the bench or starting, the players are ready to go, and this will change over the game and season, we’ll need everyone.”
Forward, Chaplin, has started building up his minutes and came off the bench during Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Bromley.
Smallbone made his City debut against Bromley.
Speaking on the summer signing, Martin was happy to confirm that both he, and Smallbone, could be fit to start at Kenilworth Road, and it is only current form of other players that create that barrier to the starting XI.
“We could start him (Conor) in the same way we could start Will, but we have a good team,” the Manager continued. “Sammy has been playing well, and he needs to keep going and keep himself in the team.
“We don’t have to manage those players, if we want them to start they can, so it’s about who’s ready and best for each game and it’s about the players pushing each other, but I can see them being interchangeable.”
