After being relegated to Sky Bet League One earlier in the week, Harry Souttar’s 78th-minute goal put us in front - on the night he made a long-awaited return from injury - which was cancelled out by Macaulay Langstaff’s late equaliser.
A trip to Ewood Park now awaits for us on the final day, facing Blackburn Rovers in a 12:30pm BST kick-off next Saturday, bringing a disappointing season to a close.
The key moments
Harry Souttar
Starting a Leicester game for the first time since October 2023 and a first involvement in any competitive club fixture since Boxing Day 2024, during a loan at Sheffield United, it was a marked with a goal for Souttar. He rose highest to bundle the ball in at the back post from Luke Thomas’ dinked cross, after playing a one-two with Jeremy Monga.
Getting through 90 minutes on Filbert Way, there’s light at the end of the tunnel for the 27-year-old defender, who has endured a long wait to return from injury.
Alex Neil’s Millwall, fighting for automatic promotion into the Premier League for the first time, knew that avoiding defeat on the night would catapult the south Londoners, at least temporarily, into the top two, and they found a way through as we entered into stoppage-time. A flick from Ryan Leonard set up Langstaff to fire into the bottom corner and draw Millwall level.
First half chances
Patson Daka
The visitors had threatened an early opener inside three minutes. Lions forward Josh Coburn charged through on goal, only for Hamza Choudhury, captain on the night, to get back and make a last-ditch tackle, preventing a goalscoring opportunity. That would end Coburn’s evening, however, forced off through injury.
Jannik Vestergaard then had to be alert to block Casper De Norre’s goalbound effort in the box, and although City had moved forward with purpose, it was initially without the necessary cutting edge to trouble Anthony Patterson in the visiting goal.
Back at the other end, Leonard struck the side netting after Femi Azeez’s run forward was stopped in its tracks by Vestergaard. Leonard had defensive work to do soon after, blocking Thomas’ effort before Harry Winks dragged a shot wide.
Second half action
Hamza Choudhury
The game remained in the balance heading into the second half, which almost burst into life when Mihailo Ivanovic tried to turn home Camiel Neghli’s cutback from close range, but Jakub Stolarczyk was in the right place to make the save. He repeated the feat by tipping over Thierno Ballo’s header from a Femi Azeez cross.
The introduction of Academy duo Louis Page and Monga on the hour mark offered a new attacking threat to the Foxes’ midfield. Page’s effort, unable to breach the Millwall defence, was followed by a similar story from Patson Daka’s attempt, but goals would soon follow at both ends.
Souttar's opener and Langstaff's reply meant it would be a point apiece on Filbert Way in our final home fixture of the season and penultimate outing before the summer.
