Trailing by a goal at the break, Aaron Ramsey's U's added three more after half-time to secure the points. Mark Harris opened the scoring after eight minutes and scored a second for himself on the hour mark, while Mo Missanga and Jamie McDonnell also got themselves on the scoresheet on Filbert Way.

We now look towards a trip to Stockport County next Saturday (3pm BST kick-off) to get back to winning ways, with this result leaving us 17th in the table after five games.

Oxford score early

With the Blue Army again turning up in numbers, Russell Martin and his side were hoping to replicate Tuesday night's performance, which saw us beat Plymouth Argyle 2-0 to claim our first league win of the season.

It was the visitors, though, that made the ideal start, scoring within the first 10 minutes through Harris to give them a lead to defend in the early stages.

Leicester held the majority of possession and had several chances to pull back level, first when Will Alves' right-footed curling cross was headed goalwards by debutant Emil Riis, forcing a save, before Jayden Joseph had consecutive opportunities to test the hands of Simon Eastwood in the Oxford net.

Foxes make their debuts

There were two debuts in Leicester colours this Saturday, one of which was Riis, who led the line against the U's from the start following a deadline day move to the East Midlands from Bristol City. He was one of four new recruits to arrive on Tuesday, with Kamari Doyle, Warren O'Hora and John Lundstram also coming in - concluding a window which saw 14 new faces join the Club.

Riis' best moment came in the first half, when that Alves cross, curling towards goal, was met by the head of the Danish centre-forward but he couldn't find the net on his home introduction.

In the second half, young midfielder Doyle - on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion - was also introduced from the bench. Rising through the ranks at Southampton, the 21-year-old has spent time at Exeter City, Crawley Town and Reading before joining us this term, handing Martin another option in the midfield areas.

Looking ahead

There were chances later on for Riis, Harry Howell and Olabade Aluko, but Oxford were able to withstand any pressure we could build with a four-goal lead. A result we'll want to put behind us as soon as possible, we have the chance to turn our fortunes around next Saturday when we make the trip to Edgeley Park to face Stockport.

Our last trip there came in 2022, when we drew 0-0 in the Carabao Cup, progressing on penalties.

With the two sides now meeting in league action, we'll be searching for a first away league win of the season, following draws at Notts County and MK Dons. The following week, we face Barnsley away from home, but with a full week of work ahead at Seagrave now, Martin and his squad will be focused on an immediate response.
