Flying out to Southern Europe on Monday, Russell Martin’s men will contest two matches out there to further prepare for the start of the 26/27 campaign, facing Cádiz CF of the Segunda División on Wednesday (6pm kick-off), before meeting newly-promoted La Liga side Málaga CF three days later (7pm kick-off).
Another opportunity for our Manager to see his ideas out on the pitch and for new signings Conor Chaplin and Alex McCarthy to integrate into the squad and bond with their new team-mates, we arrive fresh from another 90-minute runout against Burton Albion over the weekend. Goals from Kirsten Otchere, Will Alves and Nathan Opoku saw us beat the Brewers at Pirelli Stadium on Saturday in front of the travelling Blue Army support, who saw us make it three from three in pre-season after also defeating Northampton Town and Bristol Rovers.
Speaking ahead of travelling, Martin commented on what he expects to see out in Spain from both the two games and the wider work across the trip: “[I’m looking to] step it up again physically.
“[It’ll be] two different challenges tactically in games so more learning, more improvement, more physical work and also we have a chance to spend a lot of time together [as] staff and players.
“So [we can] build a lot of connections and get to know people even better, for the players to get to know each other even better and to keep building the feeling that we have, which since I’ve been in the building, I’ve really enjoyed.
“I can see the players are really wanting to take things on and willing to take it on and hopefully we can just improve again through another week.”
Following a week of intense effort in the Spanish heat, we’ll then fly back to the UK, with an Open Training Session to come on Friday 31 July and a final pre-season friendly against Serie A outfit Genoa CFC a day later (7:30pm kick-off).
Supporters can now purchase tickets for that King Power Stadium match-up, with savings from General Sale pricing for Season Ticket Holders, who can also secure tickets to watch Open Training for free on Filbert Way. All times BST.
