It comes after McCarthy picked up a clean sheet in Tuesday's win over Wigan Athletic

The Foxes returned to winning ways on Tuesday evening, recording an impressive 3-0 success over Wigan Athletic at King Power Stadium to move on quickly from the disappointment of Saturday's defeat at Luton Town.

McCarthy played his part in securing all three points, producing several important saves to register his second clean sheet in three matches, following the recent 4-0 triumph at Bromley. We welcome Stevenage to King Power Stadium for a 3pm GMT kick-off.

The former England international, who arrived in the summer, has established himself as a regular between the sticks, making 35 saves across his 11 league appearances so far.

Reflecting on Tuesday's victory, the 36-year-old was delighted with the response from his team-mates, particularly given the quick turnaround between fixtures.

"It was a great night at the office," McCarthy told CITY, our official programme, which you can get on Saturday. "Obviously coming away from Luton with a 2-1 loss was very disappointing so to bounce back with three points and a clean sheet was a massive boost for everyone involved with lots of positives to take into Saturday’s game."

With three wins from our previous four league fixtures, we are beginning to build momentum following a challenging opening to the campaign.

McCarthy believes the progress is a natural consequence of a much-changed squad spending more time together on the training pitch and developing a greater understanding of Russell Martin's methods.

"Definitely," he said when asked whether things were starting to come together. "There’s a lot of new players that have come in at the start of the season so it was always going to be a hard task for it to click straightaway.

"We’ve been together a while now, trained together a lot and we’re getting to know each other a lot better. It was only going to be a matter of time before things started to click. Everything is positive and we’re definitely heading in the right direction."

The focus now turns to maintaining that upward trajectory, with another home fixture on Saturday providing an immediate opportunity to strengthen our position in the League One standings.

For McCarthy, consistency will be crucial as the Foxes approach a demanding winter schedule, with the experienced shot-stopper confident that continued improvement can help the squad achieve its ambitions.

"We’ve got goals that we want to achieve this season and there’s so many games that come thick and fast," he explained. "To bounce back straightaway with a win and clean sheet is huge for the group and it keeps that momentum going."
