Starting the Sky Bet League Two contest at Priestfield Stadium – his third Northampton appearance – it was a goal of persistence for Briggs, who had an initial effort blocked before curling the rebound into the far corner after Conor McManus' opener.

While Northampton remain winless from three games in League Two, this point nevertheless elevates them up to 19th, with Crawley Town next at home on Tuesday (7:45pm kick-off).

Elsewhere, Jake Evans started for Cheltenham Town, playing 76 minutes, as they picked up a 2-2 draw at Barnet. The home side led through Charlie Lakin before the Robins flipped the game on its head, leading 2-1 thanks to Ryan Broom and Charlie McCann.

Barnet, though, rescued a point courtesy of Kabongo Tshimanga’s late penalty. Fellow Leicester City loanee Kirsten Otchere, on the other hand, did not feature from the bench. Cheltenham will next be in action on Tuesday evening, hosting York City (7:45pm kick-off).
