  • Leicester City beaten 2-0 by Blackburn Rovers in the Sky Bet Championship
  • Andri Guðjohnsen’s brace was the difference between the sides on Saturday
  • Manager Martí Cifuentes reflected on a third straight league defeat
  • He wants to see a much improved performance when Middlesbrough visit on Tuesday
The Foxes fell to a first home defeat of the season, but a third in succession, at the hands of the Lancashire outfit, with Andri Guðjohnsen scoring a goal in each half to see the visitors claim all three points at King Power Stadium.
Speaking following full-time, City’s Manager acknowledged that the display was far below what is expected from his side, with Stephy Mavididi finding the net on five minutes, only for the offside flag to deny us an early opener. The winger also had our best opening of the second half, but Balázs Tóth produced a sensational save to keep out the 27-year-old.

“[It’s] not the performance that we wanted,” the Spaniard told us post-match. “It’s very frustrating that we start the game with a situation on the corner kick but after that, conceded the goal.
“Perhaps we had better minutes at the end of the first half but the second half is very disappointing. We can speak about the chances, but we need to convert those chances to win football games and obviously in the second half the whole performance was very disappointing.
“Credit to the ‘keeper (for the Mavididi save) but we cannot just rely on this. We need to be better and if we don’t score we have to get on to the next one and push for the next option.”
A run of more positive results is required to spark a confidence boost and get back on the right track, he believes, and with just one win across the last nine games, there’s a chance to turn such statistics around quickly. Middlesbrough are due on Filbert Way on Tuesday evening (7:45pm GMT kick-off).

“There is much more in these players,” the 43-year-old continued. “I expect them to deliver more. I think there is more quality in them that they are showing at the moment and we need to make sure that this changes and start to put in performances according to the level that the Club deserves.
“Especially in bad times, it is the most important moment to stick together. It doesn’t matter how bad it is, no one likes to be in the situation we are, but we need to be accountable and we need to make sure the fans understand that we want to make it work for them. Hopefully the fans can help us through this difficult moment.
“It was not easy today because of the feeling, especially in the second half. But there is no hiding. We need to make sure that we regroup and go again. We have to change things quickly because there is another game on Tuesday.
“When you’re in a bad dynamic, what you want is to change it very quickly. We have a new dynamic on Tuesday and we have to show more. We need to move on to the next one and react strongly after the big disappointment of today’s game.”
