After a career playing for Berwick Rangers, Mansfield Town, Halifax Town, Heart of Midlothian and Celtic, Mike, who won one Scotland cap in 1991, joined Mark McGhee's Leicester City on loan in February 1995.
He made his Premier League debut against West Ham United that month. He went on to make five top flight appearances and one in the FA Cup, playing either as a combative midfielder or as a right full-back. However, an injury prevented the loan deal from becoming permanent.
Shortly afterwards, he was critically injured in a bad car crash at Dunton Bassett, which ended his playing career, but he would later coach at Tranent Juniors, Wooler, Coldstream, Berwick United, Eyemouth United.
Our thoughts are with Mike's family and friends at this sad time.
