A win for Nathan Opoku’s Newport County in Sky Bet League 2
The forward made a substitute appearance against Shrewsbury Town
Chris Popov played twice for Morecambe last week, registering an assist
The Shrimps were defeated in both Enterprise National League fixtures
One of the few City loanees to make an appearance during the international break, forward Opoku came on as a substitute late on in Newport County’s 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town at Rodney Parade, playing his 26th Sky Bet League 2 match so far this term.
Now sitting one place and two points outside of the fourth-tier relegation zone, the Exiles host Crawley Town this Friday, before Christian Fuchs’ side head to Meadow Lane to tackle Notts County on Easter Monday (both 3pm kick-offs), aiming to keep clear of the foot of the table.
Striker Popov started Morecambe’s back-to-back home defeats at the hands of Hartlepool United (3-2) and Aldershot (2-0), registering an assist against the Pools, his fourth of the season alongside seven goals, before featuring across 73 minutes of the weekend’s reverse at Mazuma Mobile Arena.
Remaining inside the Enterprise National League relegation zone, the Shrimps are currently 23rd and eight points from safety, with a trip to league leaders Rochdale to come on Good Friday, followed by a meeting with Carlisle three days later (both 3pm kick-offs).
